Rondane
Rondane National Park ( no, Rondane nasjonalpark) is the oldest national park in Norway, having been established on 21 December 1962. The park is located in Innlandet county, in the municipalities of Dovre, Folldal, Sel, Nord-Fron, Sør-Fron, Stor-Elvdal, and Ringebu. The park contains ten peaks above , with the highest being Rondeslottet at an altitude of . The park is an important habitat for herds of wild reindeer. The park was enlarged in 2003, and now covers an area of . Rondane lies just to the east of the Gudbrandsdalen valley and two other mountain areas, Dovre and Jotunheimen are nearby. Smiubelgen
Smiubelgen is a mountain range in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the western part of Rondane National Park, separated from the eastern part by the lake Rondvatnet. The Smiubelgen mountains have sharper ridges than the eastern part of Rondane. The mountain range is located in Sel Municipality and Dovre Municipality. Storronden
Storronden is a mountain in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain is located in the Rondane mountains within Rondane National Park. The mountain sits about northeast of the town of Otta. Rondslottet is the highest mountain in the Rondane mountain range in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain sits on the border between Dovre Municipality and Folldal Municipality, just north of the border with Sel Municipality. There is a trail leading to the summit. Name The first part of the name comes from the word which was probably the original name of the nearby lake Rondvatnet. Many of the mountains near the lake were then named after this lake. Otta, Norway
is a town in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The town is also the administrative centre of the municipality. The town is located at the confluence of the Gudbrandsdalslågen and Otta rivers. The European route E6 highway runs through the town. The Dovrebanen railway line also passes through the town, stopping at the Otta Station. The town has a population (2021) of 2,283 and a population density of . The town is named after the Otta river. The first three tiers of Norwegian education are covered by its primary and secondary schools and the high school, ''Otta vidaregående skule''. Otta also has a regional medical clinic. Dovre National Park
Dovre National Park ( no, Dovre nasjonalpark) is a national park in Innlandet county, Norway. The park was established in 2003. The park covers an area of and the altitude varies from the tree line at about up to its highest point at Fokstuhøe at . The area consists of plateaus and weathered, rounded mountain peaks. The park lies between the two larger and older parks Rondane National Park to the southeast and Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park to the north. Its opening was part of the larger expansion of parks in the area and its purpose was to protect the area between the two parks. Like Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella and Rondane, Dovre national park hosts wild Fennoscandian reindeer of Beringia origin. Gudbrandsdalen
Gudbrandsdalen (; en, Gudbrand Valley) is a valley and traditional district in the Norwegian county of Innlandet (formerly Oppland). The valley is oriented in a north-westerly direction from Lillehammer and the lake of Mjøsa, extending toward the Romsdalen valley. The river Gudbrandsdalslågen (Lågen) flows through the valley, starting from the lake Lesjaskogsvatnet and ending at the lake Mjøsa. The Otta river which flows through Otta valley is a major tributary to the main river Lågen. The valleys of the tributary rivers such as Otta and Gausa (Gausdal) are usually regarded as part of Gudbrandsdalen. Rondvatnet
Rondvatnet is a lake in Sel Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The lake is a long, narrow lake in Rondane National Park, about northeast of the town of Otta. The Norwegian Mountain Touring Association's tourist cabins at Rondvassbu are located at the southern end of this lake. Rondvatnet separates the eastern part of Rondane from the western part which is the site of Smiubelgen. During the summer season, there is boat service on the lake transporting hikers between the southern and northern end. The Jutulhogget canyon is located near the southern end of the lake. Innlandet is a county in Norway. It was created on 1 January 2020 with the merger of the old counties of Oppland and Hedmark (the municipalities of Jevnaker and Lunner were transferred to the neighboring county of Viken on the same date).
