Rocklea is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Rocklea had a population of 1,595 people. Geography Rocklea is located 9 kilometres south of the city. The west of the suburb is bordered by the Oxley Creek. The suburb's name is derived from the Rocky Waterholes in the area. It is also at one end of the Ipswich Motorway; Ipswich Road continues north from the Ipswich Motorway, through Moorooka and into the Brisbane central business district. The Beenleigh railway line passes through the suburb which is serviced by Rocklea railway station. Rocklea is a mostly industrial suburb, being the home to many large firms from a range industries. The Ipswich Motorway (M7) is a major road that connects Brisbane and Ipswich in South East Queensland, Australia. It commences at the junction of Ipswich Road and Granard Road and proceeds through to the M2 Logan Motorway interchange. It is then signed M2 until the junction of the Warrego Highway and the Cunningham Highway It initially passes through the suburbs of Rocklea, Oxley and Darra in south west Brisbane before reaching the eastern suburbs of Ipswich such as Redbank Plains, Goodna and Riverview. Ipswich Road is major road in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The road has been an important transport route since the 19th century when it connected the towns of Brisbane and Ipswich. In the 1990s, the section from Moorooka in Brisbane to Riverview in Ipswich was replaced by the Ipswich Motorway. Corinda is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Corinda had a population of 5,064 people. History The suburb takes its name from the Corinda railway station, which in turn was likely named after a local cattle station owned by Sir Arthur Palmer, which he named after his Corinda pastoral station near Aramac. Corinda was first settled in the 1860s as a small farming community. Among the original settlers was the Francis family who in 1862 purchased 21 acres, which extended from the Brisbane River to Francis Lookout, a local heritage listed landmark on Dewar Terrace. Francis Lookout survives to this day, and includes a small burial ground opened in 1862. Its ten graves include those of some of the pioneer settlers. The Oxley Creek ( Yagara: ''Benarrawa'') is a creek that is a tributary of the Brisbane River, located in suburban Brisbane in the South East region of Queensland, Australia. Rising in the low hills in Scenic Rim Region, water from the large catchment area flows into Oxley Creek as it flows through the western parts of Logan City and into Brisbane.
