The Quinnipiac Bobcats are the 21 sports teams representing Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut in intercollegiate athletics. The Bobcats compete in the NCAA Division I and are members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, joining on July 1, 2013, after being in the Northeast Conference. The Bobcats compete outside the MAAC in three sports. Despite the MAAC sponsoring field hockey, the Bobcats moved their field hockey team into the Big East Conference in 2016. In ice hockey, a sport not sponsored by the MAAC for either men or women, both Quinnipiac teams play in ECAC Hockey ECAC Hockey is one of the six conferences that compete in NCAA Division I college ice hockey, ice hockey. Quinnipiac University
Quinnipiac University () is a private university in Hamden, Connecticut. The university grants undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees through its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Communication, School of Health Sciences, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Education. The university also hosts the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. History What became Quinnipiac University was founded in 1929 by Samuel W. Tator, a business professor and politician. Phillip Troup, a Yale College graduate, was another founder, and became its first president until his death in 1939. Northeast Conference
The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Quinnipiac Bobcats Women's Ice Hockey
The Quinnipiac Bobcats women's ice hockey program represents Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats have competed in ECAC Hockey since the 2005-2006 season where they replaced Vermont when the Catamounts moved to Hockey East. Prior to that season the Bobcats competed in College Hockey America for the 2004-2005 season, played as a Division I Independent for the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons, and in the ECAC Division I Eastern division for the 2001-2002 season. The Bobcats play in the People's United Center (formerly the TD Bank Sports Center) in Hamden Connecticut. The People's United Center hosted the NCAA Women's Frozen Four in 2014 and 2019. The Quinnipiac Bobcats men's lacrosse team represents the Quinnipiac University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college lacrosse. The program was created in 1991. The Quinnipiac Bobcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, Connecticut. History Quinnipiac College began sponsoring men's ice hockey as a varsity sport for the 1975–76 season. The program began as an independent team before joining ECAC 3 the following year. The program remained with the third-tier conference for over 20 years despite being a Division II school for much of that time. The Braves left ECAC 3 in 1997 and spent a year as a D-II independent before moving up to Division I as part of the university's transition to the top level. Quinnipiac Bobcats Women's Basketball
The Quinnipiac Bobcats women's basketball team represents Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. History Quinnipiac began play in Division I in 1998. They joined the Northeast Conference in 1999, playing until 2013, when they joined the MAAC. They have made the NCAA Tournament in 2013, 2015, and 2017. They made the Sweet Sixteen in the latter year by garnering their first ever Tournament win along with the furthest they have ever made in the NCAA Tournament. This was the first time since 2007 (Marist) that a MAAC team had made the Sweet Sixteen. They have made the WNIT in 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2016. They are currently coached by Baker Dunleavy, formerly the associate head coach at Villanova, and play their home games at the M&T Bank Arena. History 1996–2007 Joe DeSantis was the fifth head coach in Quinnipiac history. He led the Bobcats during their transition from Division II to Division I. DeSantis's best season was in 1999–2000 when the team went 18–10 and DeSantis won NEC Coach of The Year. On March 8, 2007, DeSantis was fired after 11 years. The Quinnipiac Bobcats baseball team (formerly the Quinnipiac Braves) is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, United States. Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC, ) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Of its current 11 full members, 10 are located in three states of the northeastern United States: Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The other member is in Maryland. Members are all relatively small private institutions, a majority Catholic or formerly Catholic, with the only exceptions being two secular institutions: Rider University and Quinnipiac University.
