Preševo
Preševo ( sr-cyrl, Прешево; sq, Preshevë, ) is a town and municipality located in the Pčinja District of southern Serbia. It is the southernmost town in Central Serbia and largest in the geographical region of Preševo Valley. Preševo is the cultural center of Albanians in Serbia. According to the 2022 census, the town of Preševo had a population of 16,426 people, while the municipality had 59,104 inhabitants. Albanians form the ethnic majority of the municipality, followed by Serbs, Roma and other ethnic groups. History Slavs arrived roughly in the 7th century, when they first migrated to the Balkans, and by the Middle Ages, Preševo was part of the Kingdom of Serbia. Preševo Valley
The Preševo Valley ( sr-cyrl, Прешевска долина, Preševska dolina, al, Lugina e Preshevës) is a geopolitical region in southern Serbia, along the border with Kosovo. The valley geographically includes municipalities of Bujanovac and Preševo, and politically also Medveđa. It is home to most of the Albanian community in Serbia, who comprise most of the population with the rest being Serbs and Romani. As of 2022, the area has around 120,100 inhabitants. Shqiprim Arifi (; born 14 June 1976) is a Serbian politician serving as the head of the Alternative for Changes and the mayor of the Preševo municipality since 11 April 2022. Arifi is a representative of the country's Albanian community. Biography Arifi was born on 14 June 1976 to an Albanian family in Mannheim, in what was then West Germany. His family hails from the village of Trnava, in the vicinity of Preševo. In Germany he attended elementary school and graduated from economics high school in 1998. After graduating, he started working for HAAF as an international sector manager, and in 2002 he started a private business in the field of logistics, while soon opening branches of his company in Stuttgart, Leipzig, Hamburg, Bratislava and Kumanovo. Dejan (nobleman)
Dejan ( sr-Cyrl, Дејан; fl. 1346–ca. 1366) was a magnate who served Serbian Emperor Stefan Dušan (r. 1331–55) as ''sevastokrator'', and Emperor Uroš V (r. 1355–71) as '' despot''. He was married to Emperor Dušan's sister Teodora, and possessed a large province in the Kumanovo region, east of Skopska Crna Gora. It initially included the old '' župe'' (counties) of Žegligovo and Preševo (modern Kumanovo region with Sredorek, Kozjačija and the larger part of Pčinja). Uroš V later gave Dejan the Upper Struma river with Velbužd (Kyustendil). The Pčinja District ( sr, Пчињски округ, Pčinjski okrug, ) is one of nine administrative districts of Southern and Eastern Serbia. Žegligovo (župa)
Kumanovo ( mk, Куманово ; also known by other alternative names) is a city in North Macedonia and the seat of Kumanovo Municipality, the largest municipality in the country. Kumanovo lies above sea level and is surrounded by the Karadag part of Skopska Crna Gora mountain on its western side, Gradištanska mountain on its southern side, and Mangovica and German mountain on the Eastern side.
