Historical Poonch District
Poonch District (or Poonch Jagir) was a district of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is currently divided between India and Pakistan. The Pakistani part of the erstwhile district is now the Poonch Division in the Azad Kashmir territory, whilst the Indian part of the district is the Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. The capital of the Pakistan-controlled side is Rawalakot; while the capital of the Indian side is Poonch. In ancient times, Poonch was part of the ''Abhisara'' region and formed part of Alexander the Great's conquests. In later sources, the region is called ''Paranotsa'', but also known by its capital city, Lohara, which gave rise to the Lohara dynasty of Kashmir ( 1003–1320 CE). Afterwards Poonch came under the control of the Mughal Empire, then the Durrani Empire and finally the Sikh Empire. Poonch or Punch (''Prūntčh'' In Kashmiri) is a district in the Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. With headquarters in the town of Poonch, it is bounded by the Line of Control (boundary between Indian and Pakistan administered Kashmir) on three sides (north, west and south). The 1947-48 war between India and Pakistan divided the earlier district into two parts. One went to Pakistan and the other became part of the then Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Poonch (or Punch), (called ''Prunts'' in the Kashmiri, Gojri & Pahari languages) is a town and the administrative headquarters of the Poonch district, in the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Poonch District ( ur, ) is one of the 10 districts of Pakistan's dependent territory of Azad Kashmir. The Poonch District is bounded on the north by the Bagh District, on the north-east by the Haveli District, on the south-east by the Poonch District of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, on the south by the Sudhanoti District and the Kotli District, and on the west by the Rawalpindi District of Pakistan's Punjab Province. Poonchh is a historic village in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on national highway 27 in Moth Tehsil in the district of Jhansi, India. It is situated near the river Betwa ( far in the west of river Betwa) at an average elevation of . It is about from the national capital New Delhi and from the state capital Lucknow. Poonchh is well connected to all other major towns in Uttar Pradesh by road and railway networks. Poonch River
The Poonch River (also known as Punch River, Punch Tohi, Tohi of Punch) is a tributary of the Jhelum River that flows through Jammu and Kashmir in India, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Pakistan. Name According to Georg Bühler, the ancient form of the word Tohi is Taushi mentioned in the Rājataraṅgiṇī and the Nīlamata Purāṇa. In the latter work, Āpagā (Aik Nala of Sialkot), Tauśī and Candrabhāgā are named together. Probably, the word is connected with the Sanskrit ''tuṣāra'', 'cold', i.e. 'snow'.
