Pallavaram (originally Pallava Puram) is a residential neighborhood of Chennai, India. Pallavaram was a part of Alandur until August 2015 and since then a new taluk with headquarters at Pallavaram was created. The town is known for its cantonment and bustling residential colonies and is served by Pallavaram railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. It was merged with Tambaram Municipal Corporation. Pallavaram has a long history and has been inhabited since the Paleolithic Age. The town derives its name from the Pallava settlement of ''Pallavapuram'' of which it used to form a part. The cantonment and aerodrome were established during British rule. Pallavaram–Kundrathur–Poonamallee Road or State Highway 113A is an arterial road in Chennai City connecting Grand Southern Trunk Road in Pallavaram with Trunk Road in Kumananchavadi in Poonamallee running for a length of . Tambaram Municipal Corporation
Tambaram City Municipal Corporation is the civic body administering Tambaram, a southern suburb of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It covers an area of 87.64 sq. km and has an estimated 2021 population of 960,887. It is one of the three municipal corporations located within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, the other two being the Greater Chennai Corporation and Avadi City Municipal Corporation. Pallavaram Lake
Pallavaram Lake, also known as Periya aeri (Big lake) or Pallavaram aeri, is situated along Pallavaram Thuraipakkam Radial Road. It used to be a large lake, but it dried up and was polluted by industrial wastewater and garbage. A burial site remains and is used for burial rites. Ecological impact This lake was once huge and the railway tracks and trains passing through were visible from the banks of the lake. The lake does not have a single a drop of water and has turned into a dumpyard with huge garbage piles. The lake's health was altered by the following: * Waste waters from Chrome leather companies situated on western side mixes in the lake. Mahendravarman I
Mahendravarman I (600–630 CE) was a Pallava emperor who ruled the Southern portion of present-day Andhra region and Northern regions of what forms present-day Tamil Nadu in India in the early 7th century. He was a scholar, painter, architect, musician. He was the son of Simhavishnu, who defeated the Kalabhras and re-established the Pallava kingdom. During his reign, the Chalukya king Pulakeshin II attacked the Pallava kingdom. The Pallavas fought a series of wars in the northern Vengi region, before Mahendravarma decimated his chief enemies at Pullalur (according to Pallava grants at Kuram, Kasakudi and Tadantottam). Although Mahendravarma saved his capital, he lost the northern provinces to Pulakeshin. Robert Bruce Foote
Robert Bruce Foote (22 September 1834 – 29 December 1912) was a British geologist and archaeologist who conducted geological surveys of prehistoric locations in India for the Geological Survey of India. For his contributions to Indian archaeology, he is called ''the father of Indian prehistory'' Foote joined the Geological Survey of India (GSI) on 29 December 1858 was posted in the Madras Presidency, Hyderabad region and Bombay. In 1887 he became a Director of the GSI and on retiring in 1891, he joined the state of Baroda. Pallava Dynasty
The Pallava dynasty existed from 275 CE to 897 CE, ruling a significant portion of the Deccan, also known as Tondaimandalam. The dynasty rose to prominence after the downfall of the Satavahana dynasty, with whom they had formerly served as feudatories. The Pallavas became a major South Indian power during the reign of Mahendravarman I (600–630 CE) and Narasimhavarman I (630–668 CE), and dominated the southern Andhra Region and the northern parts of the Tamil region for about 600 years, until the end of the 9th century. Throughout their reign, they remained in constant conflict with both the Chalukyas of Badami in the north, and the Tamil kingdoms of Chola and Pandyas in the south.
