Ordway Prize
The Ordway Prize, created in 2005, is awarded every other year to two recipients, one artist and one curator/arts writer who have had significant impact on the field of contemporary art. Since 2008, the prize has been administered by the New Museum in New York in conjunction with Creative Link for the Arts. It carries with it an unrestricted cash award of $100,000. The nominees are between the ages of forty and sixty-five and must have a developed body of work extending over a minimum of fifteen years. The winners are chosen by a jury composed of arts professionals. New Museum
The New Museum of Contemporary Art, founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker, is a museum in New York City at 235 Bowery, on Manhattan's Lower East Side. History The museum originally opened in a space in the Graduate Center of the then-named New School for Social Research at 65 Fifth Avenue. The New Museum remained there until 1983, when it rented and moved to the first two and a half floors of the Astor Building at 583 Broadway in the SoHo neighborhood. In 1999, Marcia Tucker was succeeded as director by Lisa Phillips, previously the curator of contemporary art at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Doris Salcedo
Doris Salcedo (b. 1958) is a Colombian-born visual artist and sculptor."Doris Salcedo" Art 21, Retrieved 15 November 2018. Her work is influenced by her experiences of life in Colombia and is generally composed of commonplace items such as wooden furniture, clothing, concrete, grass, and rose petals. Salcedo's work gives form to pain, trauma, and loss, while creating space for individual and collective mourning. These themes stem from her own personal history. Members of her own family were among the many people who have disappeared in politically troubled Colombia. Ralph Rugoff
Ralph Rugoff (born 12 January 1957) is an American-born curator, the director of London's Hayward Gallery since 2006, and the curator of the Venice Biennale in 2019. Rugoff was born in New York City, the son of a film distributor father and a psychoanalyst mother, Evangeline Peterson. He studied semiotics at Brown University. Rugoff was director of the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco for nearly six years, before becoming the director of London's Hayward Gallery. Rugoff was artistic director of the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019. Cildo Meireles
Cildo Meireles (born 1948) is a Brazilian conceptual artist, installation artist and sculptor. He is noted especially for his installations, many of which express resistance to political oppression in Brazil. These works, often large and dense, encourage a phenomenological experience via the viewer's interaction. Life Meireles was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1948. Tania Bruguera
Tania Bruguera (born 1968 in Havana, Cuba) is an artist and activist who focuses on installation and performance art. She lives and works between New York City and Havana, and has participated in numerous international exhibitions. Her work is in the permanent collections of many institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and Bronx Museum of the Arts and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana. Bruguera's work pivots around issues of power and control, and several of her works interrogate and re-present events in Cuban history. Artur Żmijewski (born 26 May 1966 in Warsaw) is a Polish visual artist, filmmaker and photographer. During the years of 1990–1995 he studied at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Sabine Breitwieser
Sabine Breitwieser (born April 6, 1962 in Wels, Austria) is an Austrian curator, art manager and publicist. Life After studying law in Linz, Breitwieser obtained her doctorate in law at the University of Vienna. She was initially coordinator and curator in 1988 and from 1991 to 2007 the first artistic director on the board of the Generali Foundation (founding director). In developing the initial plans for a collection of Austrian sculpture, she expanded the Generali Foundation's art collection with a focus on conceptual and critical art. This collection, as well as the exhibitions it has shown, have met with international acclaim.
