Order Of St. Sava
The Royal Order of St. Sava is an Order of merit, first awarded by the Kingdom of Serbia in 1883 and later by the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It was awarded to nationals and foreigners for meritorious achievements in the field of religion, education, science and the arts as well as for social and relief work. The order was abolished in 1945 with the proclamation of the People’s Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the end of the monarchy. It continues as a dynastic order, with appointments currently made by Alexander, Crown Prince of Yugoslavia. An homonymous order was established in 1985, conferred by the Serbian Orthodox Church to ecclesiastic and secular persons with special merits. Kingdom Of Serbia
The Kingdom of Serbia ( sr-cyr, Краљевина Србија, Kraljevina Srbija) was a country located in the Balkans which was created when the ruler of the Principality of Serbia, Milan I, was proclaimed king in 1882. Since 1817, the Principality was ruled by the Obrenović dynasty (replaced by the Karađorđević dynasty for a short time). The Principality, under the suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire, ''de facto'' achieved full independence when the last Ottoman troops left Belgrade in 1867. The Congress of Berlin in 1878 recognized the formal independence of the Principality of Serbia, and in its composition Nišava, Pirot, Toplica and Vranje districts entered the South part of Serbia. The Karađorđević dynasty ( sr-Cyrl, Динасија Карађорђевић, Dinasija Karađorđević, Карађорђевићи / Karađorđevići, ) or House of Karađorđević ( sr-Cyrl, Кућа Карађорђевић, Kuća Karađorđević) is the name of the deposed Serbian and former Yugoslav royal family. The family was founded by Karađorđe Petrović (1768–1817), the ''Veliki Vožd'' () of Serbia during the First Serbian uprising of 1804–1813. In the course of the 19th century the relatively short-lived dynasty was supported by the Russian Empire and was opposed to the Austria-Hungary-supported Obrenović dynasty. Thomas Cook (22 November 1808 – 18 July 1892) was an English businessman. He is best known for founding the travel agency Thomas Cook & Son. He was also one of the initial developers of the "package tour" including travel, accommodations, and the like. Early life Thomas Cook was born on 22 November 1808, to John and Elizabeth Cook, who lived at 9 Quick Close in the village of Melbourne, Derbyshire. At the age of 10, Cook started working as an assistant to a local market gardener on Lord Melbourne's estate. In 1828, he became a Baptist missionary and toured the region as a village evangelist and distributing pamphlets and, in the 1830s, he became involved in the temperance movement. Harry Woodburn Blaylock
Harry Woodburn Blaylock, CBE (January 6, 1878 — January 25, 1928) was a Canadian lawyer and businessman. He was born in Quebec, and graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Civil Law in 1903. He married Agnes Georgina Mills on September 30, 1905. In 1907, he moved to London, and became the assistant commissioner of the Canadian Red Cross Society in 1915 and the chief commissioner of the society in 1918. Throughout his life, Blaylock helped construct different types of buildings and aided soldiers during World War I, and received several awards and honours for these tasks. He died at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, at age 50. Agnes Elizabeth Lloyd Bennett (24 June 1872 – 27 November 1960) was a New Zealand doctor, a Chief Medical Officer of a World War I medical unit and later was awarded an O.B.E. for her services in improving the health of women and children. Early life She was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 24 June 1872, the sixth child of William Christopher Bennett, and his first wife Agnes Amelia, née Hays. Bennett's father was an engineer and the commissioner of roads and bridges for New South Wales. Isaac Abraham Alcalay (November 11, 1881 – December 29, 1978) was a Bulgarian-born Jew who served as Chief Rabbi of Serbia and Yugoslavia as well as a leading of American Sephardic Jews. Life Alcalay was born on November 11, 1881 in Sofia, Bulgaria, the son of Rabbi Abraham Alcalay and Rifka Arditti. Alcalay studied in the Vienna rabbinical seminary and graduated from the University of Vienna in 1908. In 1909, he was appointed Chief Rabbi of Belgrade and of Serbia.
