Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), also known in short as Norwegian, is an American cruise line founded in 1966, incorporated in Bermuda and headquartered in Miami. It is the fourth-largest cruise line in the world by passengers, controlling about 8.6% of the total worldwide share of the cruise market by passengers . It is wholly owned by parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. History The cruise line was founded in 1966 by Norwegian Knut Kloster and Israeli Ted Arison, with the 8,666-ton, 140-m long cruise ship/car ferry, , which in 1966 operated as a car ferry between Southampton UK and Gibraltar, for that one short season only. MS ''Sunward II'' was a cruise ship in service for Louis Cruises until 2011. She was a Cunard Line cruise ship that operated from 1971 to 1977. She was the first of the company's vessels in the 20th century to bear a name that did not end in "ia" or begin with "Queen." Sold in 1977, ''Cunard Adventurer'' became ''Sunward II'' for Norwegian Cruise Line. During her refit, her -style funnel was removed and replaced by a NCL-style funnel. In April 2005 she was sold at auction to Louis Cruises. As ''Coral'' she sailed in the Mediterranean Sea and Greek islands until 2011. ''Leisure World'' was a cruise ship built in 1969 as ''Skyward'' for Norwegian Cruise Line. It subsequently served for several years under various companies, both as a cruise ship and later on as a floating casino. It was finally sold for scrap in 2021. Ocho Rios (Spanish for "Eight Rivers") is a town in the parish of Saint Ann on the north coast of Jamaica, and is more widely referred to as ''Ochi'' by locals.
