Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) is the governing body of athletic programs for high schools in the state of Nevada. In addition, five schools in the state of California (Coleville, Needles, North Tahoe, South Tahoe, and Truckee) and one from Arizona (Beaver Dam) are also members as the schools are geographically isolated from other in-state schools. It is a non-profit organization founded in 1922 as the Nevada Interscholastic League and became affiliated with the National Federation of State High School Associations in 1939. The league changed its name to the current form in 1967. The NIAA governs eligibility of student athletes, resolves disputes, organizes levels of competition by divisional separation of schools according to attendance population, and conducts state championship competitions in all the NIAA-sanctioned sports. Baseball
Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. Green Valley High School (Nevada)
Green Valley High School is located in Henderson, Nevada, United States. The school, serving grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Clark County School District. The school's mascot are the Gators, and the school's motto is Commitment to Excellence. History The school was named after the master-planned community of Green Valley which is located in northern Henderson. The school opened in the fall of 1991 with Carroll Johnston as the first principal and the first class graduating in 1993. Green Valley High School was the first high school since 1976 to open in Clark County School District. Green Valley was the largest school in Nevada for three years. But as the number of schools in the district has increased to over forty schools, Green Valley's zoned area has decreased, greatly impacting the size of the school's population. Centennial High School is a public secondary school located in unincorporated Clark County, Nevada, United States, in Las Vegas. The school serves about 3000 students in grades 9 to 12 in the Clark County School District. In 2000, the movie ''Pay It Forward'' was filmed at Centennial High. The Centennial boys volleyball team from 2003 under head coach David Fish went undefeated (23-0) and had three of its players go on to play at the division 1 collegiate level at Brigham Young University. Coronado High School is a public high school in Henderson, Nevada, part of Clark County School District. History The school was named after Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, a Spanish conquistador. The complex is home to the Las Vegas Mayors Cup International Tournaments. Sam Boyd Stadium (formerly the Las Vegas Silver Bowl) is a football stadium in the western United States, located in Whitney, Nevada, an unincorporated community in the Las Vegas Valley. It honors Sam Boyd (1910–1993), a major figure in the hotel and casino industry in Las Vegas. Del Sol High School
Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts, commonly known as Del Sol High School, is a nine-month public high school in Las Vegas, Nevada and is part of the Clark County School District. Del Sol was one of three schools (including Canyon Springs and Spring Valley) to open in Fall 2004. In 2016, Del Sol High School was reestablished as a performing arts academy focusing on band, costume design, dance, mariachi, music production, orchestra, theater, theater tech and vocal performance. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and '' fastpitch''. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball.
