Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays are an American professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Rays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) American League East, East division. Since its inception, the team's home Baseball park, venue has been Tropicana Field. Following nearly three decades of unsuccessfully trying to gain an Expansion team, expansion franchise or enticing existing teams to relocation of professional sports teams, relocate to the Tampa Bay area, an ownership group led by Vince Naimoli was approved on March 9, 1995. The team began play as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 1998 Major League Baseball season. The team's first decade of play was marked by futility; they finished in last place in the AL East in all but the 2004 season, when they finished second to last. Dave Wills (sportscaster)
David Herbert Wills (March 13, 1964 – March 5, 2023) was an American sportscaster who, along with his broadcast partner Andy Freed, served as the radio voice of the Tampa Bay Rays from 2005 until his death. Wills and Freed alternated play by play and color commentator duties during Rays game broadcasts, usually trading roles every three innings. Wills signed several contract extensions with the Tampa Bay Rays Radio Network and signed another "multi-year" deal after the 2017 season. Early life Wills was born and raised in the Chicago area, where he was a "die-hard" fan of the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played baseball and basketball at Oak Lawn Community High School, where he also wrote for the school newspaper. He attended Elmhurst College, where he pitched on the baseball team and worked for the school's newspaper until graduating with degrees in speech communications and urban studies in 1988.
