National Capital Junior Hockey League
The National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) is a Junior ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Hockey Eastern Ontario and Hockey Canada. The league is meant to be an interprovincial league between Ontario and Quebec. History From 1968 until 2010, the league was known as the Eastern Ontario Junior C Hockey League. At the start of the 2010-2011 regular season, the league was rebranded under its new name - National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL). In April 2015, the NCJHL accepted the application of the Morrisburg Lions to join the league for starting in the 2015-2016 season. The Lions were one of six teams dropped when the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League re-configured and re-branded as the Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2. In March 2017, it was announced that the reigning NCJHL champions, Embrun Panthers, were joining CCHL Tier 2 in the fall of 2017. Hockey Eastern Ontario
Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), formerly the Ottawa District Hockey Association (ODHA) and the Ottawa and District Amateur Hockey Association (ODAHA), is the governing body of a variety of ice hockey Junior leagues and a minor hockey system based out of the Greater Ottawa area and Southwestern Quebec. It is one of thirteen regional branches of Hockey Canada. The ODHA became HEO in the Summer of 2013. History The roots of Hockey Eastern Ontario date back to the 1890s. In 1890, the Ontario Hockey Association was organized and a senior league was formed. At the same time, the Ottawa City Hockey League was organized. In 1894, the Ottawa Hockey Association, owners of the senior Ottawa Hockey Club and organizer of the OCHL resigned from the OHA over a dispute over the Cosby Cup. Vankleek Hill, Ontario
Vankleek Hill is a town in Champlain Township in Eastern Ontario. It has a population of 1,996. The town was named after Simeon Vankleek, a United Empire Loyalist who settled there near the end of the 18th century. The agricultural-based community became a thriving community in the 1890s and still retains many of the buildings and structures of the time. As such it is called the gingerbread (the wood carvings on the eaves of one's roof) capital of Ontario. History Simeon Van Kleeck and his wife Cecilia Jaycox arrived in Nova Scotia from the former British Province of New York in 1783. Prescott, Ontario is a small town on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Canada. In 2021, the town had a population of 4,078. The Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge, east of Prescott at Johnstown, connects the town with Ogdensburg, New York. The town is about an hour from both Ottawa and Kingston. North Dundas is a township in Eastern Ontario, Canada, in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. North Dundas is located approximately south of downtown Ottawa, midway between Ottawa and Morrisburg. It is primarily rural with a few small villages. Morrisburg, Ontario
Morrisburg is an unincorporated community in the Municipality of South Dundas, located in Eastern Ontario, Canada. History On November 11, 1813, the Battle of Crysler's Farm, at which a British force repelled an invading American army, took place near what was later to be called Morrisburg. United Empire Loyalist settlers settled in Dundas County, creating West Williamsburg and was part of the Williamsburg Canal project. Between 1843 and 1856, canals were built on the north side of the St. Lawrence River. West Williamsburg was renamed Morrisburg in 1851 in honour of Brockville, Ontario, politician James Morris, who was named the first Postmaster General of the United Province of Canada. Metcalfe is a population centre located in Osgoode Ward, in the rural south-end of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Prior to amalgamation in 2001, the community was in Osgoode Township. According to the Canada 2016 Census, it has a population of 1,776. History Colonel Archibald Macdonell, believed by some to be the first settler in Osgoode Township, settled just south of the current location of Metcalfe in March 1827. The village was originally called Hawley’s Corners, but in 1877 it was renamed to Metcalfe in honour of Charles Theophilus Metcalfe, Governor General of Canada from 1843 to 1846.
