Nanni Moretti
Giovanni "Nanni" Moretti (; born 19 August 1953) is an Italian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. His films have won accolades including a Palme d'Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival for ''The Son's Room'', a Silver Bear at the 1986 Berlin Film Festival for '' The Mass is Ended'' and a Silver Lion at the 1981 Venice Film Festival for '' Sweet Dreams'', in addition to the David di Donatello Award for Best Film on three occasions (for ''Caro diario'' in 1994, ''The Son's Room'' in 2001 and '' Il caimano'' in 2006). Every film he has directed since ''Caro diario'' has been shown at the Cannes Film Festival, and in 2012 he was the president of the Official Competition jury. 2011 Cannes Film Festival
The 64th Cannes Film Festival was held from 11 to 22 May 2011. American actor Robert De Niro served as the president of the jury for the main competition and French filmmaker Michel Gondry headed the jury for the short film competition. South Korean film director Bong Joon-ho was the head of the jury for the Caméra d'Or prize, which is awarded to the best first-time filmmaker. The American film '' The Tree of Life'', directed by Terrence Malick won the Palme d'Or. ''Midnight in Paris'', written and directed by Woody Allen, opened the festival and ''Beloved'' (''Les Bien-aimés''), directed by Christophe Honoré and screened as out of competition, closed the festival. ''Caro diario'' () is a 1993 Italian-French semi-autobiographical comedy film written, directed and co-produced by Nanni Moretti, who also stars as himself. The film is structured in three anthological episodes, presented as the chapters of Moretti's open diary, in which he describes his thoughts about various slice of life situations. Silvio Orlando
Silvio Orlando (born 30 June 1957) is an Italian actor. Orlando was born and raised in Naples, where he started acting in theatre in 1976. He made his film debut in 1988 with a supporting role in the comedy '' Kamikazen: Last Night in Milan'', directed by Gabriele Salvatores. Since then, he has collaborated multiple times with Salvatores, as well as more prominently with other Italian directors such as Nanni Moretti, Daniele Luchetti, and Carlo Mazzacurati. ''April'' ( it, Aprile, link=no) is a 1998 Italian semi-autobiographical film directed by Nanni Moretti. Moretti also played the central character, a filmmaker who has to deal with Italy's political situation, his own goals as an artist and becoming a father. The French director Claire Denis described the film thus, "He wants to make a musical comedy but he can't get started. So instead he talks about his life, his new baby, his desires and fears. Franco Moretti (born 1950 in Sondrio) is an Italian literary historian and theorist. He graduated in Modern Literatures from the University of Rome in 1972.
