Nanalan'
''Nanalan is a Canadian children's television series created by Jamie Shannon and Jason Hopley. It began in 1999 as a series of three-minute shorts and later ran for a season of full-length episodes spanning 21 minutes each. It chronicles the small-scale adventures and discoveries of a three-year-old puppet girl named Mona in her grandmother Nana Bea's backyard. The title is a contraction of the phrase "Nana Land," referring to the setting. Hopley and Shannon, who continued to work with Nickelodeon afterwards on their creation ''Mr. Meaty'', produced the series through their puppetry troupe The Grogs in association with Lenz Entertainment. The show uses a blend of hand puppetry and the manipulation of cardboard cutouts, particularly in the opening theme. While the shorts do not follow a structure, the half-hour episodes follow a loose format that includes at least one song and reading an original story to the viewers. Jamie Shannon
Jamie Christopher Shannon (born February 26, 1972) is a Canadian actor, voice actor, puppeteer, director, writer and producer, best known for his work in the Canadian television series ''Nanalan''', as well as '' Ooh, Aah & You'', and the Canadian-American television series ''Mr. Meaty''. Career Having worked together since teenagers, Shannon and his partner Jason Hopley founded The Grogs puppet company troupe in 1994. Shannon had first developed the idea for The Grogs while traveling in Europe and seeing the prominent place puppets have in street theater. He and Hopley then developed the puppets for children's birthday parties. Shannon performed three-year-old Mona in the television series, ''Nanalan'''. He is also known as the performer of 16-year-old Josh in ''Mr. Meaty'' and as Swami Jeff in ''Swami Jeff's Temple of Wisdom''. Shannon is co-creator of ''Mr. Meaty'', along with Jason Hopley. The Grogs
The Grogs (also known as Grogs Inc.) were a Canadian puppet company troupe active from 1992 to 2009. They produced a variety of television shows and short films for Nickelodeon, its sister channels YTV and Nickelodeon Canada, Treehouse TV,and CBC Television. Career The Grogs were founded by Jamie Shannon and Jason Hopley in 1992 in Toronto. The two 21-year-olds As a puppet troupe, they were somewhat unusual as they designed and moulded their puppets and sets as part of the creative process for writing, directing, and performing in their TV shows. They were present in the process from pre-production to post-production with the help of their partner Jack Lenz. Jack Lenz
John Frederick "Jack" Lenz is a Canadian composer. He has written, performed, and produced music for film, television, and theatre, along with working on non-soundtrack album ventures. He is also the founder of Live Unity Enterprises, an organization devoted to the production of music for the Baháʼí community. Lenz contributed additional music for the John Debney score for Mel Gibson's film ''The Passion of the Christ''. Among his current projects is working on a movie about the persecution of Baháʼís in Iran, particularly the story of Mona Mahmudnizhad who suffered under the persecution in Iran, under the title of ''Mona's Dream''. Gemini Award
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions.
