Mulwala (locally , elsewhere also ) is a town in the Federation Council local government area in the Riverina district of New South Wales, Australia. The town is situated on Lake Mulwala, an artificial lake formed by the damming of the Murray River. At the 2006 census, Mulwala had a population of 1,986 people. The Murray Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league affiliated with the Victorian Country Football League. The league covers a large area of northern Victoria (Australia), Victoria and southern New South Wales from Shepparton, Victoria, Shepparton in the south to Deniliquin, New South Wales, Deniliquin in the north. Mulwala Homestead
Mulwala Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at North Road, Mulwala, New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the Australian Commonwealth Heritage List on 22 June 2004. History Mulwala Homestead was founded as part of the process of European pastoral development of the vast Riverina. Squatters started moving into the eastern Riverina in the late 1820s as the area's pastoral potential was recognised by colonists. The region's Aboriginal inhabitants were displaced as the tide of white settlement advanced. An early settler at Mulwala was George Hillas, but the central story of the property is that of the Sloane family. Alexander Sloane emigrated from Scotland to Australia in 1849. He married Annabella (nee Gibson) in 1856 and they had a family. In 1853 Sloane formed a pastoral company, and after a brief trip to Scotland in 1854 he returned to Australia. The Mulwala Football Club, nicknamed the ''Lions'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Mulwala located in the Riverina district of New South Wales. The first recorded match was Mulwala verses Murray Football Club on Saturday, 23 September 1882. Between 1883 and 1886 a Selector's Union Football Club played their home games in Mulwala and played against Corowa and Border United for the Camplin Cup. Lake Mulwala, a manmade reservoir created through the construction of the Yarrawonga Weir across the Murray River, is located between and in Hume region of Victoria and in the Riverina region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. The Federation Council is a local government area located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. This area was formed in 2016 from the merger of the Corowa Shire with its neighbouring Urana Shire. The Oaklands railway line is a freight-only railway line in north-eastern Victoria, Australia. The line branches from the main North East railway at Benalla station and runs across the Victoria-New South Wales border to the town of Oaklands, New South Wales. History The first section of line opened in 1883 as a branch line to St James, at the same time as the extension of the main line to Albury in New South Wales.
