Mittelweg
The ''Mittelweg'' ("Middle Way") is a north–south long-distance path which runs through the Black Forest from Pforzheim to Waldshut. It is about 230 kilometres long and was established in 1903. Since then it has been maintained and sponsored by the Black Forest Club. Its waymark is a red diamond with a white bar on a white background. Description From Pforzheim the path initially runs over the plateau between the Enz and Nagold valleys. Passing the raised bogs of the Northern Black Forest it goes to Freudenstadt and continues through the Central Black Forest via the Fohrenbühl and St. Georgen to the Hochfirst. The ''Ostweg'' is a north-south long-distance path through the Black Forest from Pforzheim to Schaffhausen. The roughly 240-kilometre-long ridgeway was laid out in 1903 and has been managed and maintained since then by the Black Forest Club. Its waymark is a black and red diamond on a white background. Central Black Forest
The Central Black Forest (german: Mittlerer Schwarzwald), also called the Middle Black Forest, is a natural or cultural division of the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It generally refers to a region of deeply incised valleys from the Rench valley and southern foothills of the Kniebis in the north to the area of Freiburg im Breisgau and Donaueschingen in the south. Its highest area, which is southeast of the Elz valley, is also part of the High Black Forest. Geography The dominating valley system of the Kinzig cuts through the Middle Black Forest from east to west. Hochfirst (Black Forest)
The Hochfirst is a wooded mountain between Saig and Titisee-Neustadt in the Black Forest in Germany with a height of . Location and surrounding area The mountain is located on the municipal boundary between Lenzkirch and Titisee-Neustadt. On the Hochfirst are a restaurant and an observation tower. From the top there is a view of the nearby Titisee and the Feldberg. In clear weather the Swiss and Austrian Alps may be seen and, in exceptional conditions, even the French Alps as far as the Italian border including Mont Blanc. Viewing tower The Hochfirst Tower (''Hochfirstturm''), built in 1890 as a steel lattice tower, is 25 metres high and stands on a natural stone base. Black Forest
The Black Forest (german: Schwarzwald ) is a large forested mountain range in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany, bounded by the Rhine Valley to the west and south and close to the borders with France and Switzerland. It is the source of the Danube and Neckar rivers. Its highest peak is the Feldberg with an elevation of above sea level. Black Forest Club
The Schwarzwaldverein (Black Forest Club or Black Forest Association) was founded in Freiburg im Breisgau ( Germany) in 1864, making it the oldest German hiking and mountaineering club. The Schwarzwaldverein has almost 90,000 members in 241 local chapters. Activities of the club include hiking, environmental protection, the promotion of local culture ('' Heimatpflege''), trail maintenance, and family and youth work projects in the Black Forest. Organisation The Schwarzwaldverein consists of the main association and 241 independent local member chapters. The local chapters are organized into 17 regions, and have a membership of almost 90,000 members. The executive committee consists of three members, and the current president is Eugen Dieterle. Westweg
The Westweg ("West Way" or "West Trail") is a long-distance hiking trail in Germany, running north–south through the Black Forest from Pforzheim to Basel. The trail is around 285 km long, and was founded in 1900. It is currently maintained under the auspices of the Black Forest Club. The trail symbol is a red lozenge on a white background. The Westweg is a part of the European Long-distance Trail E1 ( North Cape, Norway - Sicily) The route passes through or near numerous villages or small towns, so there is no difficulty in finding overnight accommodation and meals along the route. It would actually require more planning to walk it while staying in youth hostel-type accommodation, or camping. Engelsbrand
Engelsbrand is a municipality in the district of Enz in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is home to the luxury watchmaker Stowa. It contains the villages of Engelsbrand, Salmbach, and Grunbach. History The three villages of Engelsbrand, Salmbach, and Grunbach were founded in the 11th or 12th centuries ''Waldhufendorf'' as part of the settling of the area around Hirsau Abbey. The first documentation of the communities occurred on 24 July 1404, when canons from Brötzingen requested the separation of several villages, including the Engelsbrand three, from Brötzingen for the formation of a new parish in Langenbrand.
