A beauty pageant or beauty contest is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants, although some contests have evolved to also incorporate personality traits, intelligence, talent, and answers to judges' questions as judged criteria. The term almost invariably refers only to contests for unmarried women such as the Big Four international beauty pageants. Similar events or competition for men or boys being called by other names and more likely to be bodybuilding contests. The World's Most Beautiful Transsexual Contest is a beauty pageant that was held in Las Vegas in 2004 that selected the "most beautiful" transsexual in the world. Jahna Steele was the mistress of ceremonies for the pageant, in which 35 trans women competed. Contestants were required to provide proof of their original sex, and both pre-operation (pre-op) and post-operation (post-op) trans women were allowed to enter the contest. The pageant featured four competition stages: Entertainment Tonight and The Howard Stern Show were among the many media organizations that covered the pageant, which was also made into a documentary entitled Trantasia which aired on Showtime

Miss Tiffany's Universe (Thai: มิสทิฟฟานี่ยูนิเวิร์ส) is a beauty contest for Thai transgender women, held in mid-May, in Pattaya in the Kingdom of Thailand. It has taken place annually since 1998. The contest is opened to all transgender women who may or may not have gone through sex reassignment surgery. Ladyboy or Kathoey are commonly used terms in Thailand to describe effeminate gay male or transgender women. Each year, about 100 candidates from across Thailand apply to take part in the pageant.
