Ministry Of National Defense (Chile)
The Ministry of National Defense ( es, Ministerio de Defensa Nacional) is the cabinet-level administrative office in charge of "maintaining the independence and sovereignty" of Chile. It is also charged with planning, directing, coordinating, executing, controlling and informing the defense policies formulated by the President of Chile. The minister supervises all the Chilean armed forces. It is Chile's ministry of defence. History During the first days of the independence movements, the senior "secretary" of the respective Junta would function as the ''Secretary of Government'' with administrative power over the army. The office officially first came to be on 17 March 1814, when then Supreme Director Francisco de la Lastra dictated the Constitutional Norms approved on that date. Government Of Chile
Chile's government is a representative democratic republic, whereby the President of Chile is both head of state and head of government, and of a formal multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the president and by their cabinet. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the two chambers of the National Congress. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature of Chile. The Constitution of Chile was approved in a national plebiscite in September 1980, under the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. It entered into force in March 1981. After Pinochet left power in 1990, saying this country was ready to keep going along with a plebiscite, the Constitution was amended to ease provisions for future amendments to the Constitution. Government Junta Of Chile (1823)
Government Junta of Chile ( es, Junta de Representantes) (January 28, 1823 – March 29, 1823), was the political structure established to rule Chile following the resignation of Supreme Director Bernardo O'Higgins. It ruled the country until April 4, 1823, when Ramón Freire assumed as the new Supreme Director. Creation During most of 1822, Chile had grown increasingly opposed to the conservative rule of Bernardo O'Higgins, and especially to the economic policies of his minister José Antonio Rodríguez Aldea, who was widely accused of widespread corruption. The situation came to a head on January 28, 1823, when O'Higgins, in a very emotional speech and with the objective of preventing a civil war, voluntarily resigned his position in front of a convention of the principal citizens of Santiago. Bernardo O'Higgins
Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme (; August 20, 1778 – October 24, 1842) was a Chilean independence leader who freed Chile from Spanish rule in the Chilean War of Independence. He was a wealthy landowner of Basque-Spanish and Irish ancestry. Although he was the second Supreme Director of Chile (1817–1823), he is considered one of Chile's founding fathers, as he was the first holder of this title to head a fully independent Chilean state. José Ignacio Zenteno
José Ignacio Zenteno del Pozo y Silva (July 28, 1786 – July 16, 1847), was a Chilean soldier, politician and hero of the Chilean War of Independence. Zenteno was born in Santiago, the son of Antonio Zenteno y Bustamante and of Victoria del Pozo y Silva. He completed his studies at the Colegio Carolino, and took part in the movement for independence from the very beginning. In 1814, he became the secretary of Supreme Director Francisco de la Lastra, and was forced after the defeat of Rancagua, together with other patriots, to emigrate to Mendoza, Argentina, where, soon after his arrival, he was appointed secretary of the treasury of that province. There he befriended General José de San Martín, of whom became one of his principal assessors.
