Midgelle Regina Potts, known as Midge Potts, is a transgender peace activist and United States Navy, Navy veteran who ran as a Progressive Party (Green Party of the United States, Green Party) candidate in the United States Senate election in Missouri, 2010, 2010 Missouri Senate election. Biography Potts was born in on January 10, 1969 in Gainesville, Missouri. Potts served aboard the destroyer tender off the coast of Kuwait during the Gulf War. It was there that Potts was exposed to evaporated mercury in an engine room aboard the ship, and was offered an honorable discharge after failing to get treatment. She now lives off of Social Security (United States), Social Security disability benefits. After her discharge Potts reportedly married and had a child, before divorcing in 2003. A midge is any small flies, fly, including species in several family (biology), families of non-mosquito Nematoceran Diptera. Midges are found (seasonally or otherwise) on practically every land area outside permanently arid deserts and the frigid zones. Some midges, such as many Phlebotominae (sand fly) and Simuliidae (black fly), are vectors of various diseases. Many others play useful roles as prey for insectivores, such as various Wallum Sedge Frog, frogs and Hirundinidae, swallows. Others are important as detritivores, and form part of various nutrient cycles. The habits of midges vary greatly from species to species, though within any particular family, midges commonly have similar ecological roles.
