Marinus Jacobus Hendricus Michels (; 9 February 1928 – 3 March 2005) was a Dutch football player and coach. He played his entire career for AFC Ajax, which he later managed, and played for and later managed the Netherlands national team for four spells. He is regarded as one of the greatest managers of all-time. Robert Michels (; 9 January 1876 – 3 May 1936) was a German-born Italian sociologist who contributed to elite theory by describing the political behavior of intellectual elites. He belonged to the Italian school of elitism. He is best known for his book ''Political Parties'', published in 1911, which contains a description of the " iron law of oligarchy." He was a friend and disciple of Max Weber, Werner Sombart and Achille Loria. Politically, he moved from the Social Democratic Party of Germany to the Italian Socialist Party, adhering to the Italian revolutionary syndicalist wing and later to Italian Fascism, which he saw as a more democratic form of socialism. Mareno Michels (born 23 October 1984) is a Dutch darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career BDO Michels made three quarter final appearances in the BDO Open events in 2005, doing so in the Welsh Open, English Open and the German Open. He followed it up with another quarter final appearance, this time at the World Darts Trophy, one of the WDF majors. He defeated Tony Martin and Simon Whitlock before losing to Mervyn King. He then made the final of the Swedish Open, losing to Tony Eccles. Michels made his World Championship debut in 2006 but lost in the first round to Paul Hogan. It was a disappointing year for Michels, as he also suffered early exits in the World Darts Trophy and the International Darts League. Jeffrey ("Jeff") Thomas Michels (born December 29, 1961) was an Olympic weightlifter for the United States. His coach was Steve Gough. Career In 1983 after Michels won three gold medals from the Pan American Games, he realized he was about two years away from setting world weightlifting records. However, after this competition, Michels tested positive for excessive amounts of testosterone. Because of his use of a banned substance, Michels was stripped of all of his medals that he had earned, suspended by the International Weightlifting Federation, and forbidden by the International Olympic Committee to compete in the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Michels was one of 19 positive tests at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, where new sophisticated testing procedures were introduced for the first time, in earnest. Jan Michels (born 8 September 1970) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. His first professional club was PEC Zwolle in 1990. He later played with the Go Ahead Eagles, Motherwell in Scotland, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Den Bosch and AGOVV Apeldoorn. Career He played five years for FC Den Bosch, winning promotion to the Eredivisie three times – in the 1998–99, 2000–01 and 2003–04 seasons.
