Marth Mariyam Church
Marth Mariam Cathedral is the cathedral of the Chaldean Syrian Church of India, part of the Assyrian Church of the East. It is located in Thrissur City in the state of Kerala, It is the city's first Christian church inside the fort gates and is the fourth church in the Thrissur Municipal Corporation The church established in 1814 by Sakthan Thampuran, the maharajah of Cochin, for the Chaldaya Suriyani Nasrani (Ancient Indian Christian community) whom he invited to live in Thrissur to strengthen the trade sector of the new city. Chaldean Syrian Church
The Chaldean Syrian Church of India ( Classical Syriac: ܥܕܬܐ ܕܡܕܢܚܐ ܕܐܬܘܖ̈ܝܐ; Malayalam: / ''Kaldaya Suriyani Sabha'') is an Eastern Christian denomination, based in Thrissur, in India. It is organized as a metropolitan province of the Assyrian Church of the East, and represents traditional Christian communities of the East Syriac Rite (hence the name) along the Malabar Coast of India. It is headed by Mar Aprem Mooken, Metropolitan of India, who is in full communion with Patriarch Mar Awa III, head of the Assyrian Church of the East. Metropolitan is assisted by two Bishops, Mar Yohannan Yoseph, and Mar Awgin Kuriakose. The Church uses the East Syriac Rite, and employs the Divine Liturgy of Saints Addai and Mari. Kingdom Of Cochin
The Kingdom of Cochin, named after its capital in the city of Kochi (Cochin), was a kingdom in the central part of present-day Kerala state. It commenced at the early part of the 12th century and continued to rule until 1949, when monarchy was abolished by the dominion of India. Historically, the capital of Cochin was in Kodungallur (Cranganore), but in 1341 the capital was moved to Cochin inorder to remedy a disastrous flood. By the early 15th century, Cochin lost its ability to fully defend itself. The history of the Church of the East in India is dated to 52 AD by apocryphal sources and to the 9th century by the Quilon Syrian copper plates, the latter of which is considered the earliest reputable dating for Christians in the Indian subcontinent. Elias Mellus
Mar Yohannan Elias Mellus (or ''Milos'', ''Milus'') (1831–1908) was a bishop of the Chaldean Catholic Church. Elias Mellus was born on September 19, 1831, in Mardin. He entered in the monastery of Rabban Hormizd Monastery, Rabban Hormizd in Alqosh. On September 21, 1856, he was ordained priest and on June 5, 1864, he was ordained bishop Akre, Aqra by Patriarch Joseph Audo, Joseph VI Audo.
