Marija Lucija Stupica
Marija Lucija Stupica (13 December 1950 – 28 May 2002) was a Slovene children's book illustrator. Stupica was born in Ljubljana in 1950. She was the daughter of the acclaimed Slovene illustrator Marlenka Stupica and famous painter Gabrijel Stupica. Her father often used her as a model for his paintings. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. She won the Prešeren Foundation Award in 1989 for her achievements in children's book illustration. She also won the Levstik Award for her illustrations three times, in 1973, 1983 and 1985. Ljubljana (also known by other historical names) is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. It is the country's cultural, educational, economic, political and administrative center. Fran Levstik (28 September 1831 – 16 November 1887) was a Slovene writer, political activist, playwright and critic. He was one of the most prominent exponents of the Young Slovene political movement. Life and work Levstik was born in 1831 in Dolnje Retje (now part of the municipality of Velike Lašče) in Lower Carniola (then part of the Austrian Empire, today in Slovenia) in a peasant Slovene family. Levstik was the first notable writer of Slovene epic prose. Among his most known works are the short tale '' Martin Krpan From Vrh'' ( sl, Martin Krpan z Vrha), which became a classic work of Slovene literature, and the itinerary '' A Journey from Litija to Čatež'' (), the main objective of which is a literary manifesto. Hans Christian Andersen Award
The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are two literary awards given by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), recognising one living author and one living illustrator for their "lasting contribution to children's literature". The writing award was first given in 1956, the illustration award in 1966. The former is sometimes called the "Nobel Prize for children's literature". The awards are named after Hans Christian Andersen, the 19th-century Danish author of fairy tales, and each winner receives the Hans Christian Andersen Medaille (a gold medal with the bust of Andersen) and a diploma. The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is an international non-profit organization committed to bringing books and children together. The headquarters of the IBBY are located in Basel, Switzerland. IBBY history In 1952, Jella Lepman organized a meeting in Munich, Germany, called ''International Understanding through Children’s Books''. Many authors, publishers, teachers and philosophers of the time attended the meeting and as a result a committee was appointed to create the International Board on Books for Young People – IBBY. A year later in 1953, IBBY was registered as a non-profit organization in Zürich, Switzerland. Marlenka Stupica
Marlenka Stupica (, 17 December 1927 – 17 June 2022) was a Slovene children's book illustrator. She illustrated over one hundred books for children and is considered one of the top Slovene illustrators. Life and work Stupica was born as Marlenka Muck in Maribor, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes on 17 December 1927. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, People's Republic of Slovenia, Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, where she graduated in 1950. At that time, she also travelled to numerous European countries. She already illustrated as a student. Overall, she illustrated over one hundred children's books in her life, and also worked as a commercial designer and a puppet scenographer. She exhibited in Tokyo, Bratislava, Bologna, and Rome.
