Magirus
Magirus GmbH is a truck manufacturer based in Ulm, Germany, founded by Conrad Dietrich Magirus (1824–1895). It was formerly known as Klöckner Humboldt Deutz AG, maker of the Deutz engines, so the brand commonly used was Magirus Deutz, and for a short time Klöckner. Most trucks from Magirus were also known as Magirus-Deutz. The logo of Magirus Deutz was a stylised M with a sharp, long centre point to represent the spire of Ulm Minster. Magirus is one of the largest manufacturers of fire fighting equipment. Its fire trucks are primarily based upon chassis and engines from Iveco, but occasionally also uses platforms from other truck manufacturers. Magirus is an Iveco Group brand. Conrad Dietrich Magirus
Conrad Dietrich Magirus (26 September 1824, Ulm – 26 June 1895, Ulm) was a German fire brigade pioneer and entrepreneur. He is credited with inventing the mobile fire ladder. Life and work Magirus was the son of a grocer and factory owner and pursued commercial studies in Naples. He later became director of the Ulm Gymnastic Society. In 1846, some of its members became Ulm's first official company of firefighters. In 1850, Magirus took over his father's business and published his history of firefighting techniques, ''Das Feuerlöschwesen in allen seinen Theilen''. Due to the success of his firefighting and fire safety efforts, he was appointed Commander of the Ulm Fire Brigade in 1853. Deutz AG is a German internal combustion engine manufacturer, based in Porz, Cologne, Germany. The Iveco Stralis is a heavy-duty truck produced by the Italian manufacturer Iveco between 2002-2019. The Stralis replaced the EuroStar and EuroTech models; it covers the range above the Eurocargo, between 19 and 44 tonnes. The fire version of the Stralis released with the German based Iveco Magirus. The Baikal–Amur Mainline (russian: Байкало-Амурская магистраль, , , ) is a broad-gauge railway line in Russia. Traversing Eastern Siberia and the Russian Far East, the -long BAM runs about 610 to 770 km (380 to 480 miles) north of and parallel to the Trans-Siberian Railway. The Soviet Union built the BAM as a strategic alternative route to the Trans–Siberian Railway, seen as vulnerable especially along the sections close to the border with China. The BAM's costs were estimated at $14 billion, and it was built with special, durable tracks since much of it ran over permafrost.
