MTV3 ( fi, MTV Kolme, sv, MTV Tre) is a Finnish commercial television station. It had the biggest audience share of all Finnish TV channels until Yle TV1 (from Yle) took the lead. The letters MTV stand for Mainos-TV (literally "Advertisement-TV", i.e. "Commercial TV), due to the channel carrying advertising for revenue. Number 3 was added later, when the channel was allocated the third nationwide television channel and it generally became known as "Channel Three"—Finnish Broadcasting Company’s Yle TV1 and Yle TV2 being the first two—and also to distinguish it from the later MTV Finland, which is a Finnish version of Paramount's MTV channel. C More Max is a Finnish pay television channel owned and operated by MTV Oy. The channel started broadcasting in November 2006 and was originally dedicated to F1 coverage. History As MTV3+ In November 2002, MTV3 announced the launch of a digital-only channel named MTV3+ focusing mobile games and soap opera re-runs. They were granted a terrestrial minilicense and most of Finland's cable operators carried it. The channel got a full license in January 2004 and with its possibilities, Formula 1, ice hockey's SM-liiga, Finnish Floorball League, boxing, ski jumping, alpine skiing and some other sports broadcasts were added to the channel's programming. But at the same time, the channel partially turned into a pay-TV channel with a one-time fee of €20 (for Formula 1 & SM-liiga, there was also an extra fee of €70 each). C More Entertainment AB is a pay television company that previously operated as Canal+. It targets Nordic countries and has a separate channel in Sweden (C More Film). The main competitors of C More Entertainment are Viasat Film and Viasat Sport, which are part of Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) since 2018. Since 30 October 2012, the C More channels in Finland are bundled with MTV Oy's premium channels. Digital Terrestrial Television In Finland
Digital terrestrial television in Finland was launched on August 21, 2001. The analogue networks continued its broadcasts alongside the digital ones until September 1, 2007, when they were shut down nationwide. Before the analogue switchoff, the terrestrial network had three multiplexes: MUX A, MUX B and MUX C. MUX A contained the channels of the public broadcaster Yleisradio and MUX B was shared between the two commercial broadcasters: MTV3 and Nelonen. MUX C contained channels of various other broadcasters. After the analogue closedown, a fourth multiplex named MUX E was launched. All Yles channels are broadcast free-to-air, so are a few commercial ones including MTV3, Nelonen, Sub, Jim, Nelonen Pro 2 and Kutonen. There are also several pay channels. C More Juniori (formerly ''Subtv Juniori'', ''Sub Juniori'', ''MTV3 Juniori'' and ''MTV Juniori'') is a Finnish television channel targeting children owned and operated by MTV Oy. The channel is part of the C More channels package and broadcasts programs and movies aimed at children. The channel's transmission time is from morning until 8 p.m. C More Junior is shown on digital terrestrial, cable, broadband TV and satellite networks. Tesvisio
Tesvisio (earlier TES-TV) was the first television channel in Finland. It began regular broadcasts on March 21, 1956 and continued broadcasting until March 1965, when it was turned into Yle TV2. The channel began as a television experiment by Radioinsinööriseura (later Elektroniikkainsinöörien seura), an association of radio and electronics engineers who had begun test broadcasts as early as April 1955. Their first public broadcast, which was aired on May 24, 1955, is considered the first broadcast in Finnish television history. Regular broadcasts began in 1956 after the foundation Tekniikan edistämissäätiö began supporting the project. The channel was soon named ''TES-TV'' after them. The channel replaced MTV Nordic on September 18, 2005, however on February 22, 2019, it was replaced by the return of MTV Nordic.
