This is a list of school districts in Texas, sorted by Region and County. Geographical school districts in Texas are (with one exception, the Stafford Municipal School District) completely independent from city or county jurisdiction. Texas school district boundaries are not always aligned with county or city boundaries; a district can occupy several counties and cities, while a single city (especially larger ones such as Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio) may be split between several districts. Almost all Texas school districts use the title "Independent School District", or ISD. Except for Stafford, those few districts that do not have "ISD" in their names are nonetheless ISDs. Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District
Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District is a public school district based in Edcouch, Texas (USA). In addition to Edcouch, the district also serves the city of Elsa. The district serves high school students from Monte Alto. In November 1968, the Mexican-American Youth Organization (MAYO) organized a boycott of schools. MAYO demanded, among other things, eradication of the no-Spanish-use rule and to introduce Mexican American course content. This boycott legitimized MAYO activism in South Texas. After the school expelled 62 students, the newly founded Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF) filed a lawsuit for the school's action. STISD operates magnet schools that draw students from three counties: Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy. STISD covers an area of , overlapping 28 other school districts.
