This is a list of railway lines on the Finnish rail network, including lists of stations on the most important lines. The lines and the stations are owned by the Finnish Transport Agency. VR Group has a monopoly on passenger transport. As of 2011, it is the only operator of freight trains as well even though freight transport is open for private companies. Kupittaa Railway Station
Kupittaa railway station ( fi, Kupittaan rautatieasema, sv, Kuppis järnvägsstation) is located in the Kupittaa district of Turku, Finland. The station is located about three kilometres from the Turku Central railway station in the immediate vicinity of the Turku Science Park. All trains between Helsinki and Turku stop at Kupittaa. The station is part of the Turku traffic point, and traffic control is handled from Turku Central railway station. The station has bus connections to Turku internal lines 32, 42 and 58 and regional line 110. The old station building at Kupittaa dates back to 1914 and is located about a hundred metres to the northwest of the current station. The building was designed by John Stolpe. Harjavalta Railway Station
Harjavalta () is a town and municipality in Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Satakunta region, southeast of Pori. The town has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Today people in the town are employed in the copper and nickel smelting industries. Today's most used metal recovery method, the flash smelting method, was developed at Harjavalta and implemented in 1949. Originally part of Outokumpu, a Finnish company, the copper business is now owned by Boliden and the nickel business by Norilsk Nickel. Hiittenharju is a ridge in Harjavalta, known for its archaeology and cultural history. The banks of the ancient Litorina Sea lies on the fringes of the Hiittenharju ridge. Kokemäki (; sv, Kumo) is a town and municipality in the Satakunta Region of Finland. The town has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . Nokia Railway Station
The Nokia railway station is located in the town of Nokia, Finland, on the track between Tampere and Pori. The station was completed in 1895, and trains between Tampere and Pori stop there twelve times a day, half of which in each direction. A train trip between Tampere and Nokia takes 14 minutes, according to the VR Group. There is a bus station in connection with the railway station, including a Matkahuolto cargo terminal, a taxi station, a café- kiosk and a business complex, containing a police station and a waffle café. Tampere Railway Station
Tampere Central Station is a functionalist building in Tampere, Finland, designed by Eero Seppälä and Otto Flodin, completed in 1936. The station is one of the most important railway stations in Finland. In 2015, the Tampere Central Station was the second busiest railway station in Finland in terms of numbers of passengers, after the Helsinki Central Station. The 36-metre clock tower was later added because the Finnish railway bureau required it (its total height from ground level is about 50 metres). The city's main street Hämeenkatu begins at the railway station, continuing over the Hämeensilta bridge to its western end at the Aleksanteri Church. Toijala Railway Station
Toijala railway station (; ) is located in the Toijala district of the town of Akaa, Finland. The station is located at a crossing point of three different railway tracks: from Riihimäki to Tampere, from Turku to Toijala, and from Toijala to Valkeakoski. Originally, all three tracks served both personnel and cargo traffic, but personnel traffic to Valkeakoski was discontinued in 1956. Nowadays, all passenger trains between Helsinki and Tampere, except Pendolino trains, and all trains from Turku to Tampere and on towards Oulu and Pieksämäki stop at Toijala. Hämeenlinna Railway Station
Hämeenlinna railway station ( fi, Hämeenlinnan rautatieasema, sv, Tavastehus järnvägsstation) is located in the town of Hämeenlinna, Finland. Hämeenlinna belongs to the oldest railway stations in Finland, because the first railway line in Finland was opened between Helsinki and Hämeenlinna in 1862. The original station building, designed by the architect Carl Albert Edelfelt, was destroyed during the Finnish Civil War in 1918. The current red brick station building was designed by Thure Hellström and completed in 1921. Hämeenlinna is located about halfway between Helsinki and Tampere, and because of this, the station has much pass-through traffic, even though the Hämeenlinna station is not a crossing-point station. Riihimäki Railway Station
Riihimäki railway station (, ) is a railway station located in the town of Riihimäki, Finland. History The Riihimäki railway station is one of the original stations on the main railway track from Helsinki to Hämeenlinna, opened in 1862 (see Finnish Main Line and Helsinki–Riihimäki railway). The town was originally built because of the railway. In 1870, a track to Saint Petersburg, Russia, was built (see Riihimäki–Saint Petersburg Railway). The amount of traffic increased, and by the 20th century, Riihimäki became an important crossing-point station. In 1907, a narrow track to Loppi was built, but it was discontinued in 1952. The track was electrified in 1972. By the late 20th century, the railroad traffic from Riihimäki south towards Helsinki started to become overloaded, so a more direct track to Lahti was built. Tikkurila Railway Station
Tikkurila station ( fi, Tikkurilan rautatieasema, sv, Dickursby station) is located in Tikkurila, the administrative centre of Vantaa in the Helsinki metropolitan area. It is located approximately from Helsinki Central railway station and from Helsinki Airport. The station is considered the main railway station of Vantaa, and almost all long-distance and commuter trains stop here. Tikkurila was one of the first seven railway stations in Finland constructed together with the country's first railway between Helsinki and Hämeenlinna in 1862. It was also the only one apart from the two terminus stations to be built out of brick and not wood.
