History

Lemvig is a 750-year-old market town, and received its municipal charter in 1545. One of the landmarks of Lemvig is the town church from the 13th century. The old town is situated between the Limfjord, a lake and some hills. The local topography was shaped during the Last Glacial Period, last ice age.

Lemvig Municipality
Lemvig is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 516.63 km2, and has a population of 20,657 (1 January 2015). Its mayor is Erik Flyvholm, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Lemvig. The town has a population of 6,966. The current municipality was enlarged on January 1, 2007 as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007) when the former Thyborøn-Harboøre municipality was merged into the existing Lemvig municipality. A significant part of its southern border is defined by the waters of Bøvling Fjord, Indfjorden and Nissum Fjord. Victor Torp Overgaard (born 30 July 1999) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Eliteserien club Sarpsborg 08. He is a Danish youth international. Mikkel Kallesøe
Mikkel Kallesøe Andreasen (born 20 April 1997) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Danish Superliga club Randers FC. Club career Randers FC In the summer 2014, Kallesøe got promoted to the first team squad, at age 17, after signing a three-year professional- and full-time contract with the Randers. On 26 October 2014, Kallesøe got his debut for Randers FC, at age 17. Kallesøe started on the bench, but replaced Kasper Fisker in the 80nd minute in a 3–0 victory against OB. Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region ( da, Region Midtjylland), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favour of the local level and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region comprises 19 municipalities. Iver Schriver
Iver Schriver (born 9 April 1949) is a former Danish footballer. Biography Iver Schriver was born in Lemvig but moved to Aulum with his family at a young age. Already then it was obvious that Schriver was a big talent. In 1970 Schriver made his first big move from Herning Fremad to the Danish top side Vejle Boldklub. In Vejle Schriver experienced winning the Danish championship in 1971 and The double in 1972. Sinne Eeg
Sinne Eeg (born 1 September 1977 in Lemvig, Denmark) is a Danish jazz vocalist and composer. Eeg has received a number of recognitions and positive reviews both nationally and internationally, and is considered among the best female jazz vocalists currently in Scandinavia. She has composed many of her own songs, and although she usually sings in English, she has also performed and recorded songs in Danish. Jens Christian Skou
Jens Christian Skou (; 8 October 1918 – 28 May 2018) was a Danish biochemist and Nobel laureate. Early life Skou was born in Lemvig, Denmark to a wealthy family. His father Magnus Martinus Skou was a timber and coal merchant. His mother Ane-Margrethe Skou took over the company after the death of his father. At the age of 15, Skou entered a boarding school in Haslev, Zealand. He graduated in medicine from the University of Copenhagen in 1944 and received his doctorate in 1954. He began working at the Aarhus University in 1947 and was appointed professor of biophysics in 1977. He retired from the Aarhus University in 1988, but kept offices at the Department of Physiology (today part of the Department of Biomedicine). Elof Westergaard (born 31 March 1962 in Lemvig) is a Danish theologian who since 2014 has been a Bishop of Ribe. Priest After graduating in theology from Aarhus University in 1991, he was ordained as a priest in Ribe Cathedral . Jacob Nicolai Wilse
Jacob Nicolai Wilse (January 24, 1736 – May 23, 1801) was a parish priest in Spydeberg and Eidsberg, Norway. He was born in Lemvig, Denmark and is known for writing topographic works with extensive descriptions of travel in Norway in the 1790s. Wilse is considered Østfold county's first significant cultural researcher and one of the fathers of Norwegian village history. His friend Hans Strøm also wrote topographical works for Sunnmøre and Eiker. Like Strøm, Wilse authored one of the first descriptions of the relationship between nature and human activity.
