Leberg
The Leberg is a hill and uphill street in Elst, part of the municipality of Brakel, in the Belgian province of East Flanders. Its top is at 99 m altitude, making it one of the highest hills of the Zwalm region, just north of the Flemish Ardennes. The road has an asphalt surface and links the valley town of Elst to the hilltop town of Zegelsem. Cycling The climb is best known from road bicycle racing, where it regularly features in the Flemish races in spring, most notably the Tour of Flanders. The Leberg is 700 m high, and has an average gradient of 6.1% with its steepest point, 14%, in a right-hand curve at the bottom of the climb. The upper half of the climb is less steep, but runs exposed through fields and acres, causing wind to have a significant influence sometimes. The Tour of Flanders ( nl, Ronde van Vlaanderen), also known as ''De Ronde'' (''"The Tour"''), is an annual road cycling race held in Belgium every spring. The most important cycling race in Flanders, it is part of the UCI World Tour and organized by Flanders Classics. Its nickname is ''Vlaanderens Mooiste'' ( Dutch for "Flanders' Finest"). First held in 1913, the Tour of Flanders had its 100th edition in 2016. Today it is one of the five '' monuments'' of cycling, together with Milan–San Remo, Paris–Roubaix, Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Giro di Lombardia. Elst, Belgium
Elst is a village belonging to the municipality of Brakel. It is located in the Denderstreek in the province East Flanders in Belgium. Overview The village was mentioned in 977 as Elsuth. There are two mills in the village. The oldest is the , an overshot watermill, which originated from before 898, and is one of the oldest in Belgium. The current mill was reconstructed in 1571. In 1859, it was severely damaged in a storm. In 1974, it stopped operations, and was declared a monument the next year. The Leberg is located in the village. Tour Of Flanders For Women
The Tour of Flanders ( nl, Ronde van Vlaanderen), formerly the Tour of Flanders for Women ( nl, Ronde van Vlaanderen voor Vrouwen), is an annual road bicycle racing event in Flanders, Belgium, held in early April. It is held on the same day as the men's race, on much of the same roads but at a shorter distance. Dutch riders Mirjam Melchers, Annemiek van Vleuten and German Judith Arndt hold the record with two wins each. Lotte Kopecky won the most recent edition in 2022. The event has been held annually since 2004 on the same day as the men's race. From 2004 to 2015 it was part of the UCI Women's Road World Cup. Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, previously Omloop Het Volk, is a one-day road cycling race in Belgium, held annually in late February. It is the opening event of the Belgian cycling season, as well as the first race of the year in Northwestern Europe, and holds significant prestige because of it. Since 2017, the race is part of the UCI World Tour, cycling's top-tier professional events. The race starts in Ghent, Flanders and finishes in Ninove, Flanders. The race route covers the hills in the Flemish Ardennes, marking the start of the cobbled classics season in Europe. Eneco Tour
The Benelux Tour (previously known as the Eneco Tour and the BinckBank Tour) is a road bicycle racing stage-race that is part of the UCI World Tour. The race was established in 2005 and was originally known as the Eneco Tour, named after the original sponsor. In 2017, the online discount broker BinckBank took over as the title sponsor, with the name of the race changing accordingly. In 2021, with the absence of a title sponsor, the race will be known as the Benelux Tour. History The Tour of the Netherlands began on 6 May 1948, but only became an annual event in 1975. Dwars door Vlaanderen ''( en, Across Flanders)'' is a semi-classic road bicycle race in Belgium, held annually since 1945. The race starts in Roeselare and finishes in Waregem, both in West Flanders. Since 2017 the event is included in the UCI World Tour. Held in late March, the event is part of the '' Flemish Cycling Week'', which also includes E3 Harelbeke, Gent–Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders. Zegelsem is a village in the municipality of Brakel in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. Zegelsem is an agricultural community in the Flemish Ardennes. It is located about south of Ghent. Overview Zegelsem is a part of the hilly landscape of the Flemish Ardennes. The hills are cut by several brooks, the most important being the Perlinkbeek. The village was first mentioned in 866 as "Sigulfi villa", and means "settlement of Sigiwulf (person)". The settlement used to be property of the Lobbes Abbey. Around 881, the village and church were destroyed by the Vikings. The parish church which was later built, was dedicated to Ursmar, the first abbot of the Lobbes Abbey. Zegelsem is known for its street paved with sett and is nicknamed ''kasseidorp'' (sett village). As a result, it is featured in road cycling races like the Tour of Flanders.
