Lagedi is a small borough ( et, alevik) in Rae Parish, Harju County, northern Estonia. As of 2011 Census, the settlement's population was 953. Lagedi has a station on the Elron's eastern route. Lagedi was the site of a slave-labor camp during German occupation in World War II. Vaivara Concentration Camp
Vaivara was the largest of the 22 concentration and labor camps established in occupied Estonia by the Nazi regime during World War II. It had 20,000 Jewish prisoners pass through its gates, mostly from the Vilna and Kovno Ghettos, but also from Latvia, Poland, Hungary and the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Vaivara was one of the last camps to be established. It existed from August 1943 to February 1944. Creation On 21 June 1943, Heinrich Himmler ordered the liquidation of the remaining ghettos in the Baltic states. Subsequently, German occupation authorities met under the auspices of the Commander of the Security Police and SD in Reval (the German name for the Estonian capital Tallinn) in order to plan the establishment of forced labor camps for the oil-shale extraction operations of Baltöl, an IG Farben subsidiary. Rae Parish ( et, Rae vald) is a rural municipality in northern Estonia. It is a part of Harju County. The municipality has a population of 17,967 (as of 1 January 2018) and covers an area of 206.7 km². The population density is . Settlements Administrative centre of the municipality is Jüri, a small borough. The other biggest populated places are Vaida, Assaku, Lagedi and Peetri small boroughs. Counties ( et, maakond, plural ') are the first-level administrative subdivisions of Estonia. Estonian territory is composed of 15 counties, including 13 on the mainland and 2 on islands. The government (') of each county is led by a ' (governor) who represents the national government (') at the regional level. Governors are appointed by the national government for a term of five years. Harju County
Harju County ( et, Harju maakond or ''Harjumaa''), is one of the fifteen counties of Estonia. It is situated in Northern Estonia, on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, and borders Lääne-Viru County to the east, Järva County to the southeast, Rapla County to the south, and Lääne County to the southwest. A municipality ( et, omavalitsus, plural ) is the smallest administrative subdivision of Estonia. Each municipality is a unit of self-government with its representative and executive bodies. The municipalities in Estonia cover the entire territory of the country. Statistics Estonia ( et, Statistikaamet) is the Estonian government agency responsible for producing official statistics regarding Estonia. It is part of the Ministry of Finance. The agency has approximately 320 employees. The office of the agency is in Tatari, Tallinn. Elron (rail Transit)
AS Eesti Liinirongid, operating as Elron, is a government-owned passenger train operator in Estonia. The company was founded as a subsidiary of Eesti Raudtee in 1998, and separated shortly thereafter. Prior to 2014, the company operated exclusively the electrified commuter rail system in Harjumaa, and was known until October 2013 as ''Elektriraudtee'', i.e. "the Electrical Railway". On 1 January 2014 Elron took over all domestic passenger train services in Estonia from Edelaraudtee. Network Inter-city rail Elron operates inter-city trains from Tallinn's Balti jaam on several lines: Tallinn–Tartu– Valga (connecting to Pasažieru vilciens trains to Riga), Tallinn–Tartu– Koidula, Tallinn–Narva, and Tallinn–Viljandi.
