Kambadasan
Kambadasan (1916–1973) was an Indian writer, poet and film lyricist who worked mainly in Tamil-language films. Early life Kambadasan was born as Appaavu a.k.a. Rajappa at Ulagapuram, a village near Tindivanam in the then South Arcot District (Madras Presidency) on 15 September 1916. His father Subbarayar was a potter and his mother is Balammal. He was the only son to his parents whose other five children were all girls. The family migrated to Purasaivakkam in Chennai when he was a child. The school education came to an end with 6th standard. He was interested in stage plays. With his fine voice, singing talents and ability to play the harmonium, he soon established a place for himself in stage dramas. Poompaavai
''Poompavai'' () is a 1944 Indian Tamil language, Tamil-language film directed by T. Balaji Singh and the duo Krishnan–Panju in the latter's directorial debut. Produced under the banner of Leo Films, it features K. R. Ramasamy (actor), K. R. Ramaswamy, U. R. Jeevarathnam, K. Sarangapani, K. R. Chellam and S. V. Sahasranamam. The film was released in August 1944 and became a success. Plot Poompavai is the daughter of Sivanesan Chettiar, a jeweller based in Mylapore, Mylai. Her wicked stepmother, cruel stepmother Ponnammal despises her and plots against her. Poompavai devotes herself to worshipping the Hindus, Hindu god Shiva. One day, Shiva appears before her father in the guise of a ''sadhu'', and gives him a ruby, which he decides to embed in a crown that the chieftain of Mylai has ordered him to make. Mayalamari
''Mayalamari'' () is a 1951 Indian Telugu-language fantasy film, produced by A.N.R.Gopala Krishnan under the Aswini Pictures banner and directed by P. Sridhar. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Anjali Devi, with music composed by P. Adinarayana Rao. The film was simultaneously released in Tamil as ''Maayakkari'' (1951). Plot Princess Indumati (Anjali Devi) the heir princess of a kingdom falls for a valiant soldier Pratap (ANR). But Indumathi's maternal uncle Bhaskar Varma (Mukkamala) aspires to possess her along with the kingdom. ''Gnana Soundari'' is a 1948 Indian Tamil-language film written, produced and directed by the duo F. Nagoor and Joseph Thaliath Jr. The film stars T. R. Mahalingam, M. V. Rajamma in lead roles with D. Balasubramaniam, Sivabhagyam, Lalitha and Padmini playing supporting roles. The film revolves around Gnana Soundari, daughter of King Dharmar who is ill-treated by her stepmother Lenal. In order to get rid of her, Lenal sends her to a forest. In the process, Soundari loses both of her hands and she gets saved by prince Pilenthiran. The film was adapted from a stage play conducted by Nawab Rajamanickam which itself adapted from a Christian folk tale. The film's screenplay was written by Nanjil Nadu T. N. Rajappa. ''Mangayarkarasi'' () is a 1949 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Jiten Banerjee. The film was produced by F. Nagoor and S. N. Ahamed, and stars P. U. Chinnappa, P. Kannamba and Anjali Devi. ''Natyarani'' () is a 1949 Tamil-language dance film starring Vasundhara Devi, B. S. Saroja, K. Thavamani Devi and T. S. Balaiah. Plot A swamy (hermit) teaches fine arts like music and dance from his Ashram in a village to students. A young girl named Shanthala from the villages brings him milk every day. May be due to her seeing students training in music and dance in the ashram, Shanthala had a strange dream in which she becomes very famous. ''Achan'' is a 1952 Indian Malayalam-language film, directed by M. R. S. Mani and produced by M. Kunchacko. The film stars Prem Nazir and B. S. Saroja in lead roles. The film had musical score by P. S. Divakar. This was the only film in which veteran actor Sesbastian Kunjukunju Bhagavatahar did a comic role. It is one of the major box office hits of early Malayalam cinema. It will be remembered as the debut of Boban Kunchacko, the maiden venture of XL Productions, and first film of Thiruvananthapuram V. Lakshmi. ''Ithaya Geetham'' is a 1950 Indian Tamil-language historical romance film written, directed and produced by Joseph Thaliath Jr. The film stars T.R. Mahalingam and T. R. Rajakumari. Plot A king is on his deathbed. He requests his friend to take care of the queen (Rajalakshmi) and their daughter (Rajakumari). The friend has two sons. ''Visappinte Vili'' () is a 1952 Indian Malayalam-language drama film directed by Mohan Rao and produced by Kunchacko and K. V. Koshi under the banner of K&K Combines. It stars Prem Nazir, Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair, Kumari Thankam, Pankajavalli, Nanukuttan, Mathappan, S. P. Pillai and Baby Girija. It was the second film in the career of Prem Nazir. His first appearance with the name Prem Nazir was in this film. It was on the sets of this film that he was renamed Prem Nazir by Thikkurussi Sukumaran Nair. He was credited as Abdul Khader in his debut film ''Marumakal''. ''Visappinte Vili'' became the break in his career. Made on a low budget, the film became the highest-grossing film of the year. ''Parijatham'' is a Tamil language film released in 1950, starring T. R. Mahalingam, M. V. Rajamma and B. S. Saroja. Plot The film has three story lines. The first line which is the first part is about the well known myth of Naragasura. Naragasura, the demon king has invincible powers due to the boons he had received from Devas and with all that he wreaks havoc on everyone. Narada knows that only Bama, the wife of Krishna who was Naragasura's mother in the previous birth can annihilate him. Narada adept in his covert ways to achieve his goals subtly gifts a parijatham flower to Krishna and make him in turn gift it to his first wife Rukmani. As expected the demon king dies at the hands of Bama but not before making a request that his day of death be celebrated by people as Deepavali. Plot Prince Gunasagaran hates his father Marthandan, king of Neelapuri as he, in spite of his age, spends his time in entertainment without concern for people. ''Saalivaahanan'' is a Tamil language film starring Ranjan, T. R. Rajakumari, M. G. Ramachandran and K. L. V. Vasantha. The film was released in 1945.
