Kalyana Mandapam
''Kalyana Mandapam'' () is a 1971 Indian Telugu-language film produced and directed by V. Madhusudhana Rao. A remake of Puttanna Kanagal ''Gejje Pooje'' (1969), the film stars Sobhan Babu and Kanchana; Jaggayya, Anjali Devi, and Gummadi play key supporting roles. P. Adinarayana Rao composed the film's soundtrack and score, and S. Venkatarathnam handled the cinematography. The film was a commercial success, completing a 100-day run. Plot Annapurna, a devadasi, aspires to lead a normal married life. She falls in love with Chandrasekhar, a musician, and begets a child named Chandramukhi. As Chandrasekhar fails to return to her, Annapurna is pressured by her mother Ranganayaki to be a rich man's mistress. Annapurna accepts, and aims to help Chandramukhi lead a respectable married life when she grows up. Gejje Pooje is a 1969 Indian Kannada language film directed by Puttanna Kanagal and produced by Rashi Brothers. The film stars Kalpana, Gangadhar and Leelavathi in the lead roles. ''Gejje'' means anklet and ''pooje'' means worship, but in the context of this film, it means a mock marriage. The film is based on the novel ''Gejje Pooje'', by M. K. Indira. Rama Prabha is an Indian actress who performs in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. She has acted in more than 1,400 films and is credited as a character artist who shared screen space with superstars across all generation of South Indian Cinema with a career spanning over six decades. C. Nagabushanam (19 April 1921 – 5 May 1995) was an Indian actor known for his works in Telugu cinema and Telugu theatre. He acted in more than 350 films from the 1950s to the 1980s. He primarily acted in villain and character actor roles. Nagabushanam was a trendsetter in enacting comic villain characters. He was also known by the title “Natabhooshana” (). Devadasi
In India, a devadasi was a female artist who was dedicated to the worship and service of a deity or a temple for the rest of her life. The dedication took place in a ceremony that was somewhat similar to a marriage ceremony. In addition to taking care of the temple and performing rituals, these women also learned and practiced classical Indian artistic traditions such as Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi. Their social status was high as dance and music were an essential part of temple worship. Between the sixth and thirteenth centuries, Devadasis had a high rank and dignity in society and were exceptionally affluent as they were seen as the protectors of the arts. Shubraveshti Ramaswamiah Seetharama Sharma (1 December 1933 – 5 June 1985), known popularly as S. R. Puttanna Kanagal, was an Indian filmmaker known for his work in Kannada cinema. He is often considered one of Kannada cinema's most influential filmmakers. Background and personal life Puttanna Kanagal was born to Ramaswamaiah and Subbamma in Kanagal, a village in the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore into a poor family.
