International Union Of Forest Research Organizations
The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) (french: Union Internationale des Instituts de Recherches Forestières, german: Internationaler Verband Forstlicher Forschungsanstalten, es, Unión Internacional de Institutos de Investigación Forestal) is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists, headquartered in Austria.The aim of the organization is to promote worldwide cooperation in scientific studies embracing the whole field of research related to forests and their use and sustainable development. In 2019 IUFRO counted 630 Member Organizations worldwide. Activities IUFRO generates scientific knowledge for policy-makers, practitioners and stakeholders; and assists scientists and institutions to strengthen their research capacity. An international non-governmental organization (INGO) is an organization which is independent of government involvement and extends the concept of a non-governmental organization (NGO) to an international scope. International Tropical Timber Organization
The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) is an intergovernmental organization that promotes conservation of tropical forest resources and their sustainable management, use and trade. Organization The organization was established under the International Tropical Timber Agreement (ITTA), which was sponsored by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and was ratified in 1985. Its mandate was renewed by the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 1994 and again by the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 2006, which aims to promote sustainable management and legal harvesting of forests that produce tropical timber, and to promote expansion and diversification of international timber trade from these forests. Mike John Wingfield FAAS FRSSAf is a South African professor and the founding director of the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute ( FABI), University of Pretoria. Early life and education Mike John Wingfield was born on 21 April 1954 in Durban, South Africa. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Botany from the University of Natal in 1976, before completing a Master of Science in plant pathology from the Plant Protection Research Institute, Stellenbosch University, in 1979, graduating with Honours. He earned his doctorate in entomology and plant pathology from the University of Minnesota in 1983. Wingfield also graduated from the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2008.
