Idir (singer)
Hamid Cheriet ( kab, Ḥamid Ceryat; 25 October 1949 – 2 May 2020), better known by his stage name Idir, was an Algerian Kabyle singer-songwriter and musician. Referred to as the "King of Amazigh music", he is regarded as one of the more significant modern day figures in Algerian and Amazigh culture, history, and struggle. Along with musicians like Ferhat Mehenni and Lounis Aït Menguellet, Idir helped popularize Raï folk music. Initially training to be a geologist, his interest for music was piqued when he was called to sing on state radio as a late substitute. After finishing his compulsory military service, he moved to France in 1975 and embarked on his career in music. Idir took a hiatus during the 1980s before returning in 1993. He was a passionate advocate of the Kabyle and Berber cultures. Mustafa Ait Idir
Mustafa Ait Idir (sometimes written as Ait Idr) is an individual formerly held in the United States Guantanamo Bay detainment camps, in Cuba. Ait Idir was born in Algeria, but moved to Bosnia, married a Bosnian woman, and became a Bosnian citizen. Idir was arrested on October 18, 2001, on suspicion of participating in a conspiracy to bomb the United States Embassy. After their release following their acquittal, the six men were captured on January 17, 2002, by American forces, who transferred them to Guantanamo Bay. Ait Idr has alleged brutal treatment there. He claims that guards beat him when he was shackled, and bent back his fingers, breaking them. During another alleged beating, guards threw him onto a gravel path, where one guard jumped on him, with his full weight, causing a stroke that left part of his face paralyzed. Jamel Aït Ben Idir (born 10 January 1984) is a French-Moroccan former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Born in Mont-Saint-Aignan, Aït Ben Idir joined Le Havre in 2000 as a youth player. He made his professional debut for the club in a Ligue 2 match on 26 March 2002 against AC Ajaccio playing the full 90 minutes in a 1–0 loss. Idir Ouali (born 21 May 1988) is a French professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Belgian club Olympic Charleroi. Club career Ouali began his career in the junior ranks of amateur club ''SCO Roubaix 59'' in his native Roubaix. At age 15, his math teacher at the time recommended that he try out for Mouscron's academy, ''Futurosport'', which was a short distance away across the Belgian border. Thomas Gérard Idir (; born 26 June 1980), better known by his stage name Sinik, is a French-language rap artist. He is also known as Malsain, L'assassin and S.I.N.I.K..
