Idel-Ural
Idel-Ural ( tt-Cyrl, Идел-Урал, translit=Idel-Üral, russian: Идель-Урал), literally Volga-Ural, is a historical region in Eastern Europe, in what is today Russia. The name literally means '' Volga- Urals'' in the Tatar language. The frequently used Russian variant is ''Volgo-Uralye'' (). The term Idel-Ural is often used to designate 6 republics of Russia of this region: Bashkortostan, Chuvashia, Mari El, Mordovia, Tatarstan and Udmurtia, especially in Tatar-language literature or in the context of minority languages. Idel-Ural is at the center of the Volga Federal District (Поволжье, ''Povolzhye''). Free Idel-Ural (russian: Свободный Идель-Урал; tt, Азат Идел-Урал; myv, Олячив Рав-Уралонь) is a civic movement of the people of Idel-Ural that aims for independence for the republics of Mordovia, Chuvashia, Mari El, Tatarstan, Udmurtia and Bashkortostan and the integration of these six republics into one union with a common border, economic space and collective safety system. Idel-Ural State
The Idel-Ural State ( tt-Cyrl, Идел-Урал өлкәсе, , ), also known as the Volga-Ural State or Idel-Ural Republic, was a short-lived Tatar republic located in Kazan that claimed to unite Tatars, Bashkirs, Volga Germans, and the Chuvash in the turmoil of the Russian Civil War. Often viewed as an attempt to recreate the Khanate of Kazan, the republic was proclaimed on 1 March 1918, by a Congress of Muslims from Russia's interior and Siberia. ''Idel-Ural'' means "Volga- Ural" in the Tatar language. During the Russian Revolution, various regional political leaders convened in June 1917 in Kazan. Idel-Ural Legion
The Volga-Tatar Legion (german: Wolgatatarische Legion) or Idel-Ural Legion ( tt-Cyrl, Идел-Урал Легионы, translit=İdel-Ural Legionı) denoted a series of units within the Wehrmacht in World War II. It was recruited among Muslim Volga Tatar in the Soviet Union, but also included other Idel-Ural peoples, including Bashkirs, Chuvashes, Maris, Tatars, Udmurts, and Mordvins. Germany promoted the Idel-Ural Legion as evidence that Muslim Turkic peoples were opposed to Russia and Bolshevism, but they also wanted to spare German blood. The legion was established in 1942 and comprised around 12,500 men, spread over seven battalions numbered 825 to 831. Tatar ( or ) is a Turkic language spoken by Tatars mainly located in modern Tatarstan (European Russia), as well as Siberia. It should not be confused with Crimean Tatar or Siberian Tatar, which are closely related but belong to different subgroups of the Kipchak languages.
