Hisashi Hieda
Hisashi Hieda (born December 31, 1937) is a Japanese television executive who is the chief executive officer at Fuji Media Holdings, Inc, and chairman since June 2001. He also is chairman of the Japan Art Association. Biography Hieda, who introduced the slogan “If it’s not fun, it’s not Fuji TV,” joined the broadcaster in 1961 and became president and CEO in 1988. He has held the post of chairman and CEO of Fujisankei Communications International since 1992. During his tenure, programs were introduced that catapulted Fuji from fourth to first place in the ratings and which have turned it into Japan’s most profitable network. Hieda has also been involved in the company’s successful moviemaking activities. Television in Japan was introduced in 1939. However, experiments date back to the 1920s, with Kenjiro Takayanagi's pioneering experiments in electronic television. Television broadcasting was halted by World War II, after which regular television broadcasting began in 1950. After Japan developed the first HDTV systems in the 1960s, MUSE/Hi-Vision was introduced in the 1970s. A modified version of the NTSC system for analog signals, called NTSC-J, was used for analog broadcast between 1950 and the early 2010s. Fujisankei Communications International, Inc. (FCI) is the American arm of the Fujisankei Communications Group, a Japanese media conglomerate of television and radio channels, magazine, newspaper, record and video game companies. The Fujisankei Communications Group regroups more than 90 companies, like Fuji TV in Japan, among others.
