Guy Alexandre
Guy Alexandre (August 1945 – February 28, 2014) was a Haitian sociologist, diplomat, and professor. Life and career Early life and education Alexandre was born in St. Marc. He attended the Collège Saint -Martial in Port-au-Prince, where he was a member of the Christian Student Youth Group (JEC). From 1967-1974, Guy studied Political Science in Belgium and Sociology in Paris. Teaching career He then taught at a French high school. In 1979, he returned to Haiti, working at the Institute Pédagogique National (IPN) in Port-au-Prince, focusing on educational research and teacher training. He later taught at the Université d'Etat d'Haïti, Université Quisqueya, the l'Ecole Normale, and the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales Latinoamericana (FLACSO) in Santo Domingo. Université Quisqueya
Quisqueya University (french: Université Quisqueya) founded in 1988, is a private Haitian university located in Port-au-Prince. The coordinator of the university's establishment and its first rector, from 1990 to 1995, was Jacques-Édouard Alexis who became Prime Minister of Haiti in 1999. The institution is considered to be Haiti's leading private university. Jean-Bertrand Aristide
Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 15 July 1953) is a Haitian former Salesian priest and politician who became Haiti's first democratically elected president. A proponent of liberation theology, Aristide was appointed to a parish in Port-au-Prince in 1982 after completing his studies to become a priest. He became a focal point for the pro-democracy movement first under Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier and then under the military transition regime which followed. He won the 1990–91 Haitian general election, with 67% of the vote. As a priest, he taught liberation theology and, as a president, he attempted to normalize Afro-Creole culture, including Vodou religion, in Haiti. Aristide was briefly president of Haiti, until a September 1991 military coup. Port-au-Prince ( , ; ht, Pòtoprens ) is the capital and most populous city of Haiti. The city's population was estimated at 987,311 in 2015 with the metropolitan area estimated at a population of 2,618,894. Jean-Max Bellerive
Jean-Max Bellerive (born 1958) is a Haitian politician and former Prime Minister of Haiti. He resigned on 14 May 2011. Biography Personal life Bellerive was born in Port-au-Prince in 1958. As the son of a prominent doctor, he left Haiti at a very young age to study in Switzerland, France, and Belgium. With a degree in Political Science and International Relations, Bellerive returned to Haiti in 1986, just before the overthrow of Jean-Claude Duvalier. He is married, and has two daughters.
