Gunnar Bull Gundersen
Gunnar Bull Gundersen (5 April 1929 – 7 November 1993) was a Norwegian sailor, novelist, playwright and lyricist. Biography Gunnar Bull Gundersen was born at Stavanger in Rogaland, Norway. Gundersen grew up with changing foster parents and at different boarding schools. He referred to his young years as a very itinerant childhood and said he had visited 10 schools and been expelled from three of them. Shortly after World War II, he went to sea. He was welfare secretary in the State Welfare Office for the merchant navy (''Statens Velferdskontor for Handelsflåten''), where he was stationed in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Liverpool. He took the officer and later captain examinations at Oslo Public Seamen's School (''Oslo Offentlige Sjømannsskole'') in 1953 and sailed for some years as an officer in foreign trade. NRK, an abbreviation of the Norwegian ''Norsk Rikskringkasting AS'', generally expressed in English as the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, is the Norwegian government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company, and the largest media organisation in Norway. All other TV channels, broadcast from Norway, were banned between 1960 and 1981. NRK broadcasts three national TV channels and thirteen national radio channels on digital terrestrial television, digital terrestrial radio and subscription television. Mads Wiel Nygaard's Endowment is an annually awarded literary prize from the publishing house Aschehoug. The prize is a recognition of superior literary work. The publisher's editorial management makes the award based on their collective judgement of merit. Applications are not accepted. The endowment is awarded in recognition of Mads Wiel Nygaard (1898–1952). Nygaard was the chief executive officer of Aschehoug. In 1940, he replaced his father William Martin Nygaard as CEO and served in that position until his own death during November 1952. Jon Michelet
Jon Michelet (14 July 1944, Moss – 14 April 2018, Oslo) was a Norwegian novelist. He had experience in various lines of work, including sailor and dock worker and references to these experiences can be found in his writing. His writing spans several genres such as crime novels, newspaper columns, sports journalism and children's books. Author and editor One of his best-known books is the action-thriller novel Orion's Belt (1977). The novel was adapted into a 1985 film by the same name, which is regarded as Norway's first modern action film. In 1981, he was awarded the Riverton Prize (best Norwegian crime book of the year) for his crime novel Hvit som snø (White as snow). Twenty years later he won the prize again (as the first author to do so) with Den frosne kvinnen (The frozen woman). His last work would become his biggest bestseller: En sjøens helt (A hero of the sea), a six-volume series about Norwegian war sailors during World War II and their destinies. He managed to ...
