Guan Liang
Guan Liang (; 1900–1986), courtesy name Lianggong (), was a Chinese painter. He was an important representative of the first generation of oil painters in China and was known for blending Western and Chinese art styles. Biography Guan Liang was born in Panyu, Guangdong province in 1900. In 1917 he went to Tokyo, Japan, where he studied oil painting under Fujishima Takeji. After returning to China in 1922, he taught at the Shanghai Fine Arts School and the National Academy of Art (present-day China Academy of Art) in Hangzhou. In 1927 he joined the Northern Expedition (Beifa War) against the northern warlords, and was in charge of arts and publicity for the Expedition army. In 1940 Guan Liang held his first solo exhibition in Chengdu, Sichuan province. In 1957 he was among the three artists chosen by the government to exhibit at the Berlin Arts Institute in East Germany. Guan settled in Shanghai in the 1960s, where he lived until his death in 1986. Panyu
Panyu, alternately romanized as Punyu, is one of 11 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, China. It was a separate county-level city before its incorporation into modern Guangzhou in 2000. The present district covers an area of about . Geography Panyu lies at the heart of the Pearl River Delta, its boundary straddles from latitudes 22.26' to 23.05', and sprawls from longitudes 113.14' to 113.42'. Facing the Lion Sea in the east and the estuary of the Pearl River in the south, its eastern border is separated from Dongguan by a strip of water, and the western border of Panyu is adjacent to the cities of Nanhai, Shunde and Zhongshan, while it abuts the downtown of Guangzhou in the north. The China Artists Association (), originally the China National Art Workers' Association (), is the official national association of Chinese artists, with its headquarters in Beijing. It was established in July 1949, with Xu Beihong as its first chairman. Organization The China Artists Association is under the leadership of the Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party, and managed by the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party.
