Gramsbergen (Dutch Low Saxon: ''Grambarge'') is a small Dutch city on the Vechte, located in the municipality of Hardenberg and the province of Overijssel. The town is located on corridors of different transportation modes: The N34 (Zwolle - Emmen), the Zwolle - Emmen railway and the Almelo - de Haandrik canal. History Gramsbergen and its hamlets have been inhabited since pre-historic times. In the 'Cultuur Historisch Informatie Centrum Vechtdal' (The Historical and Cultural Center of Vechtdal), in the centre of Gramsbergen, several archaeological artefacts are exhibited. These artefacts come from settlements from around 8000 BC. It was first mentioned in 1227 as Bergene, and means "the hill of Gram (person)". It received city rights in 1442. Gramsbergen developed on higher ground along the Vechte. In 1227, the Battle of Ane was fought to the west of Gramsbergen during which the bishop of Utrecht was defeated by the citizens of Drenthe. Hardenberg
Hardenberg (; nds-nl, Haddenbarreg or '' 'n Arnbarg'') is a city and municipality in the province of Overijssel, Eastern Netherlands. The municipality of Hardenberg has a population of about 60,000, with about 19,000 living in the city. It received city rights in 1362 from Jan van Arkel, Bishop of Utrecht. Erik Hulzebosch
Erik Hulzebosch (born 17 June 1970) is a Dutch marathon speed skater, inline speed skater and part-time singer and blogger at his own website. Born in Ane, Gramsbergen Hulzebosch started as a cyclo-cross cyclist. In marathon speed skating he won several races on both artificial and nature track races, making his debut in 1987. He was the 1992 World Champion in inline skating. During the 1997 Elfstedentocht Hulzebosch was favourite to win the title, but was outsprinted in the final metres by Henk Angenent. Hulzebosch is known for his Eastern Dutch accent and his popularity in these days resulted in a top-15 hit called "Hulzebosch Hulzebosch" in 1997 as well. He is married to long track speed skater Jenita Hulzebosch-Smit, sister of Olympic silver medalist Gretha Smit. De Krim
De Krim is a village in the municipality of Hardenberg part of the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. The village started as a peat excavation village. History In 1832, the Lutterhoofdwijk canal was dug as a side canal of the to excavate the peat in the area, and a settlement developed along the canal. On 17 October 1857, it was first mentioned as De Krim (Dutch for Crimea). That year, there was a riot among the peat workers which was suppressed by the Royal Marechaussee; the heavy-handedness of the police action was compared to the Crimean War. De Krim is a popular place name, and occurs 17 times in the Netherlands, including the nearby Nieuwe Krim which begins with Nieuw (New) to distinguish from this village. In 1862, De Krim obtained an official concession to excavate the peat. From 1890 onwards, the economy was based on potatoes, and in 1906, a potato starch factory opened. Battle Of Ane
The Battle of Ane ( Dutch Low Saxon:''Slag bi'j Aone'', Dutch:''Slag bij Ane''), was fought in 1227 between Otto II of Lippe, Bishop of Utrecht, and Rudolf II van Coevorden with his army of Drenths. The account of the battle comes from '' Quedam narracio de Groninghe de Trentis de Covordia et diversis aliis sub episcopis traiectensibus'' ("A narrative of Groningen and Drenthe and various other things under the Bishops of Utrecht"), a manuscript from the early 13th century. Henk Bodewitz
Hendrik Wilhelm "Henk" Bodewitz (born 13 October 1939) is a Dutch Sanskrit scholar. He was a professor at the Universities of Utrecht and later Leiden between 1976 and 2002. Career Bodewitz was born in Gramsbergen on 13 October 1939. Between 1952 and 1958 he attended the gymnasium in Coevorden. He obtained a degree in classical languages at Utrecht University in 1963 and subsequently a further degree in Indo-Iranian studies in 1966. Bodewitz started working at Utrecht University as an assistant professor of Sanskrit in 1966. He did so for two years and then became an associate professor at Leiden University, which he remained until 1976. In 1973 Bodewitz earned his PhD under Jan Gonda at Utrecht University. In 1976 he was appointed as full professor of Sanskrit and Indo-European linguistics and he succeeded Gonda in that position.
