Film4 is a British free-to-air television network owned by Channel Four Television Corporation launched on 1 November 1998, devoted to broadcasting films. While its standard-definition channel is available on Freeview and Freesat platforms, its high-definition variant is offered only as a pay television service. The channel offered an online video on demand service, Film4oD until it was closed in July 2015. Film4oD
Film4oD was a UK based video on demand service for Film4, from Channel Four Television Corporation and FilmFlex. Film4oD officially launched on 1 November 2010, following two years of development by FilmFlex, with more than 500 films available at launch. Film4oD has more new releases available to rent than iTunes, LoveFilm or Blinkbox, with many films available on the same day as DVD release and some on the same day as cinema release. Films are available for 48-hour rental and are streamed online using Microsoft Silverlight requiring a minimum broadband speed of 2 Mbit/s. A download-to-rent option was added on 26 September 2011, allowing films to be watched while offline. Channel 4 is a British free-to-air public broadcast television network operated by the state-owned Channel Four Television Corporation. It began its transmission on 2 November 1982 and was established to provide a fourth television service in the United Kingdom. At the time, the only other channels were the licence-funded BBC One and BBC Two, and a single commercial broadcasting network ITV. Film4 Productions is a British film production company owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The company has been responsible for backing many films made in the United Kingdom. The company's first production was '' Walter'', directed by Stephen Frears, which was released in 1982. It is especially known for its gritty, kitchen sink-style films and period drama. Channel Four Television Corporation is a British state-owned media company headquartered in London. Its original and principal activity is the British national television network Channel 4. The company was founded in 1982 as the Channel Four Television Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the IBA, and became an independent statutory corporation in 1993. More4 is a British free-to-air television channel, owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The channel launched on 10 October 2005. Its programming mainly focuses on lifestyle and documentaries, as well as foreign dramas. Content When the channel first launched in 2005, it mostly focused on US dramas and repeats of Channel 4 programmes. Having shown all five weekday editions of ''The Daily Show'' since More4's launch, in January 2011 the channel scaled back its commitment to one episode per week in order to increase investment in its arts programming. All 4 is a video on demand service from the Channel Four Television Corporation, free of charge for most content and funded by advertising. The service is available in the UK and Ireland; viewers are not required to have a TV licence—required for live viewing and the BBC iPlayer on-demand service—when watching on-demand services. The service launched on 16 November 2006 as 4oD (for "4 on Demand"). The service offers a variety of programmes recently shown on Channel 4, E4, More4, Film4 and E4 Extra and shorts. 4seven (commonly stylised as 47) is a British free-to-air television channel which was launched on 4 July 2012 at 7.00 pm. According to Channel 4, it was created in response to its viewers demanding Channel 4 to broadcast old programming from the network. Its programming focuses on Channel 4's top rated programmes. 4seven launched with 20 hours of content in the schedule per day. In the 8.00 pm and 10.00 pm slots the channel broadcasts a repeat of shows from the previous day that have created a critical buzz in newspapers, chatter on social media through Twitter and Facebook and reaction on the overnight log of comments kept by the broadcaster. The 11.00 pm slot is used to repeat the programme shown on Channel 4 at 9.00 pm, which air again on 4seven at 9.00 pm the following day. 4Music is a British music television channel owned and operated by Channel Four Television Corporation. The original incarnation was launched on 15 August 2008, and until 29 June 2022, showed a mix of music and entertainment programming. It was a replacement of The Hits television channel. The original version of 4Music was replaced by E4 Extra, a new sister channel and extension of E4, on 29 June 2022. At the same time, 4Music was relaunched into a full-time music TV channel and replaced Box Hits, which ceased broadcasting since. History 4Music began its broadcast in 2008 with an on-screen countdown which lasted for ten minutes. During the countdown, clips from popular music videos were faded through the screen, including clips from promotions for the channel. Kerrang! TV is a British music television channel owned by Channel Four Television Corporation, with permission to use the ''Kerrang!'' brand from Bauer. It is currently the only music channel in the United Kingdom that is dedicated to rock music. As of 2005, all of its programme content is music videos, the majority of which is open-schedule so as to permit text requests from their playlist. Background The TV station's playlist is mainly nu metal, pop punk/skate punk and indie rock, although with some unusual exceptions. Certain acts such as Tenacious D and Limp Bizkit got higher-than-average play rates, due to higher rates of text requests. Kiss TV is a commercial hip-hop and dance music television channel owned by Channel Four Television , with permission to use the Kiss brand from Bauer Media Audio UK. The playlist predominantly consists of old skool and mainstream hip-hop, grime, EDM/Dance and R&B. It is based on the format of the Bauer owned national radio station Kiss. History The original incarnation of Kiss TV was created by Guy Wingate, was bought back in to head up EMAP's fledgling TV division by then Kiss Chief Executive and the station's original founder, Gordon 'Mac' McNamee. The channel ran for one hour a night on the Mirror Group's L!VE TV cable circuit and after a year moved up to the Granada satellite and cable platform, taking a similar slot in the evening.
