Eston
Eston is a Village in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. The ward covering the area (as well as Lackenby, Lazenby and Wilton) had a population of 7,005 at the 2011 census. It is part of Greater Eston, which includes the outlying settlements of Grangetown, Normanby, South Bank, Teesville and part of Ormesby. Excluding Ormesby, the wider area came under the former Eston Urban District from 1894 until 1968. This was a single civil parish with a district council which had the ability to gain a charter to be a town and become a municipal borough in this case it did not. The County Borough of Teesside was created in 1968. The town remains unparished. History The land around Eston has been occupied since 2400 BC. Normanby, Redcar And Cleveland
Normanby is an area in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. A ward covering the area had a population of 6,930 at the 2011 census. It is part of Greater Eston, which includes the area and the outlying settlements of Eston, Grangetown, South Bank, Teesville and part of Ormesby. Ormesby's ancient parish was split into civil parishes. As a township, Normanby civil parish was formed with South Bank, it was under the South Bank in Normanby Urban District Council from 1894-1915. The urban district and parish merged into the Eston Urban District which was abolished in 1968 with the district becoming part of the County Borough of Teesside. In 1974, the county borough was abolished with the area remaining unparished since the abolition. The villages of Lackenby, Lazenby and Wilton are in the area however were not included in Middlesbrough. It is mainly an area which was formerly covered by the Eston Urban District until 1968, it did not include Ormesby which was in a parish of the Stokesley Rural District. Teesville is an area in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. A ward covering the area had a population of 6,517 at the 2011 census. It is part of Greater Eston, which includes the area and the settlements of Eston, Normanby, South Bank, Teesville and part of Ormesby. Grangetown is an area in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. The area is east of Middlesbrough and from south-west of Redcar. A ward covering the area had a population of 5,088 at the 2011 census. It is part of Greater Eston, which includes the area and the other centres of Eston, Normanby, South Bank, Teesville and part of Ormesby. History The development of Grangetown was the discovery of ironstone in the Eston Hills in 1840, and the further development of the iron and steel industry along the riverbanks by Messrs. Bolckow and Vaughan from 1881. The name of the village was taken from a farm nearby called ''Eston Grange'', formerly a working farm for the monks of Guisborough Priory. South Bank is a township in the Redcar and Cleveland borough in North Yorkshire, England on the south bank of the River Tees. It is east of Middlesbrough and south-west of Redcar. The town is served by railway station. The namesake ward had a population of 6,548 at the 2011 census. It forms part of the Teesside built-up area's Middlesbrough subdivision in 2011. Teesside was, from 1968 to 1974, a local government district in northern England. It comprised a conurbation that spanned both sides of the River Tees from which it took its name. Redcar and Cleveland is a borough with unitary authority status in North Yorkshire, England. Ormesby is an area which is split between Borough of Middlesbrough and Borough of Redcar and Cleveland in North Yorkshire, England. It is in the Middlesbrough part of the Teesside built up area. Spencer Beck to the east and the B1380 road to the south form the boundary of Redcar and Cleveland with Middlesbrough's borough. Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough ( ) is a town on the southern bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire, England. It is near the North York Moors national park. Wilton is a small village in Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. In 1951 the parish had a population of 958. Geography It is located between Redcar and Eston at the base of Eston Hills – to the east of Eston Nab. The village is noted for its golf course and castle, Wilton Castle.
