Esham
Esham is an American rapper from Detroit, Michigan. Esham released his debut studio album, ''Boomin' Words from Hell'', in 1989. Since then, he has gone on to release 15 studio albums in total and is best known as a representative of the hip hop subgenres horrorcore and rap rock. In 1992, he co-founded the horrorcore group Natas. He and his brother James Smith founded and ran the Detroit hip hop label Reel Life Productions. As one of the first rappers to receive attention in the city, Esham was often cited as a major influence on another Detroit horrorcore act, Insane Clown Posse. Esham is known for incorporating elements of rock music in his beats, and his lyrics cover a number of subjects, including death, drug use, evil, paranoia and sex. Reel Life Productions, also known as Gothom Records, is an independent record label based in Detroit, Michigan most associated with the hip hop subgenre horrorcore. The label was founded in 1989 by James H. Smith and his younger brother, rapper Esham. Since its formation, RLP had released much of Esham's discography, and had been home to a number of other artists, including Natas, Dice, Mastamind, T-N-T, Kool Keith and The Dayton Family. The label was founded in 1991 by Alex Abbiss and hip hop group Insane Clown Posse. The iconography of a man with a meat cleaver has been used for years as a symbol of the group, its fanbase, and its associates. In addition to producing music, Psychopathic also produces merchandise, video, and professional wrestling. Insane Clown Posse, often abbreviated as ICP, is an American hip hop duo. ''Boomin' Words from Hell'' is the debut album of Esham. It was first released in 1989, and was reissued the following year. Production ''Boomin' Words from Hell'' was recorded in one day. Lyrical themes The lyrics of ''Boomin' Words from Hell'' developed from the turmoil of Detroit at the time, including the era's rise in crack use. According to Esham, "It was all an expression about 70s-'80s drug cartel Young Boys Incorporated, Mayor Coleman Young, the city we lived in and just the turmoil that our city was going through at the time. Natas (Nation Ahead of Time And Space, originally Niggas Ahead of Time And Space'', also satan backwards) was an American hip hop group from Detroit, Michigan best known as representatives of the subgenres horrorcore and rap rock. Joseph Frank Bruce (born April 28, 1972), known by his stage name Violent J, is an American rapper, record producer, professional wrestler, and part of the hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse. Soopa Villainz is an American hip hop supergroup based in Detroit, Michigan. Formed in 2002, the group consists of Joseph Bruce (Mr. Diamond), Joseph Utsler (Mr. Club) and Esham (Mr. Spade). Lavel (Mr. Heart) was later added to the lineup, but left during the group's hiatus. Since 2018, the group has reverted to its original lineup. ''Dog Beats'' is a 1991 EP by Inner City Posse, later to be known as Insane Clown Posse. Having previously created and released three homemade "basement tapes" (distributed locally and highly sought-after by collectors today) that were recorded on cassette via karaoke machine ("Enter the Ghetto Zone", "Intelligence and Violence", and "Bass-ment Cuts"), Dog Beats was both the Inner City Posse's first release to be recorded professionally and was also the first record ever released by Psychopathic Records. A founding member of Natas, he was formerly signed with Reel Life Productions before forming his own label, Toxsic Records. Brian Harmon (born January 20, 1973), better known by his stage name Champtown, is an American rapper, disc jockey, film director and teacher from Detroit, Michigan.
