Erovnuli Liga
The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა - lit. National League) is the top division of professional football in Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017 the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. Erovnuli Liga 2
The Georgian Erovnuli Liga 2 ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა 2; ), organized since 1990 by GFF, serves as the second division of professional football in Georgia. Under the current name the league was introduced for the 2017 season as a part of reorganization process of the entire league system. It was formerly known as Pirveli liga (the First league). Structure There are ten clubs competing in Erovnuli Liga 2. During the season each club plays against its rival four times, twice at home and twice away. At the end of each season the winner gains automatic promotion and the bottom club is relegated. Metallurg Rustavi
Metalurgi Rustavi is a defunct Georgian football team based in Rustavi, which has twice won the national league. In Soviet times, the club played under the name "Metalurgi" (Rustavi), then during the independence of Georgia, the club was called "Gorda" (Rustavi) and FC Rustavi. After FC Tbilisi merged with club FC Rustavi in 2006, FC Olimpi Rustavi was established. History Football in Rustavi could be traced back to Metalurgi Rustavi in the Soviet era. In 1990, the club became a member of the newly created Umaglesi Liga under the name ''Gorda'' with Givi Nodia at the helm. In the first three seasons Gorda twice secured the bronze medals. FC Arsenali Tbilisi was a Georgian association football club based in Tbilisi. History The club was founded in 1940 as the military club DKA Tbilisi. In the beginning, they played in local competitions. In 1945 the club made his debut in the Group II of the USSR Championship, where he took 4th place. They also competed in the USSR Cup, where he reached the quarter-finals. In 1946 it changed its name to DO Tbilisi. Before the 1950 season began, the USSR football system was reorganized and the Tbilisi club was deprived of the best teams. In the late 1950s he played in the play-offs against Spartaki Tbilisi for promotion to the B-Class, but lost the competition. FC Torpedo Kutaisi is a Georgian professional football club based in Kutaisi, Georgia's third largest city. 'Torpedo Kutaisi' was founded in 1946 and in just three years the club became the winner of the Football Championship of that time. Torpedo's home ground is Ramaz Shengelia Stadium. FC Dinamo Sokhumi ( ka, სკ სოხუმის დინამო) is a Georgian association football club from Sokhumi, Georgia, temporarily based in Tbilisi.
