Eluru is a city and the district headquarters of Eluru district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the 14 municipal corporations in the state and the mandal headquarters of Eluru mandal in the Eluru revenue division. The city is on the Tammileru river. The city is well known for its wool-pile carpets and hand woven products. Census of India, the city had a population of . Its history dates back to the second century CE. It is part of Kalinga Kingdom and later it was the capital of Vengi Kingdom. As on date Eluru urban agglomeration has a population of 3,800,000. Eluru District
Eluru district is a district in coastal Andhra Region in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. With Eluru as its administrative headquarters, it was proposed on 26 January 2022 to become one of the resultant twenty six districts in the state once a final notification is issued by the government of Andhra Pradesh. It is formed from Eluru revenue division and Jangareddygudem revenue division from West Godavari district and Nuzvid revenue division from Krishna district. Eluru revenue division (or Eluru division) is an administrative division in the Eluru district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the 3 revenue divisions in the district which consists of 12 mandals under its administration. Eluru city is the divisional headquarters. History The history of the division dates back to Britishers rule in India, when it has its existence. The present sixteen mandals became part of the division on 25 May 1985. Eluru Buddha Park
Gaja Vallivari Cheruvu is one of the ancient ponds in the history of Helapuri town (ancient name of Eluru city). During the Chalukyan period elephants used to drink water in this pond. Eluru is the former capital of the Vengi Dynasty. Between 11A.D. Buddha statue A magnificent 74 feet Buddha statue was constructed in the middle of the pond named Gajjalavari Cheruvu and a painting gallery was also created to spread the Buddha’s teachings.
