Durango (), officially named Estado Libre y Soberano de Durango ( en, Free and Sovereign State of Durango; Tepehuán: ''Korian''; Nahuatl: ''Tepēhuahcān''), is one of the 31 states which make up the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico, situated in the northwest of the country. With a population of 1,832,650, the 8th lowest of Mexico's states, Durango has Mexico's second-lowest population density, after Baja California Sur. The capital city, Victoria de Durango, is named after the first President of Mexico, Guadalupe Victoria. José Rosas Aispuro Torres (born 19 October 1961) is a Mexican lawyer and politician affiliated with the National Action Party who served as the governor of Durango from 2016 to 2022. From 2012 to 2015, he served as senator in the LXII and LXIII Legislatures representing Durango. He also was Municipal President of Durango, Durango from 2001 to 2004. Nahuatl
Nahuatl (; ), Aztec, or Mexicano is a language or, by some definitions, a group of languages of the Uto-Aztecan language family. Varieties of Nahuatl are spoken by about Nahua peoples, most of whom live mainly in Central Mexico and have smaller populations in the United States. Nahuatl has been spoken in central Mexico since at least the seventh century CE. Tepehuán (Tepehuano) is the name of three closely related languages of the Piman languages, Piman branch of the Uto-Aztecan languages, Uto-Aztecan language family, all spoken in northern Mexico. The language is called O'otham by its speakers.
