The Duchy of Montbazon is the area around Montbazon, near Tours, in France. During the Ancien Régime, Montbazon became a ''seigneurie'' held by the House of Rohan in the fifteenth century; was elevated to a '' comté'' in 1557, and raised to the level of a duchy in 1588. Montbazon
Montbazon () is a commune in the Indre-et-Loire department, France. It is located on the river Indre between the towns of Veigné, Monts and Sorigny. The town is about 12 km from Tours. History In 991, friars of Cormery complained to the king that Fulk Nerra, lord of Anjou, was building a fortress in their land of Montbazon (he became lord of Montbazon in 997 although he was 17 years old). From 994, the lofty fortress dominated a strategic point on the Indre river. Population Economy Montbazon has a small industrial park. It groups together small and medium-sized businesses. Albert Rohan, Duke of Bouillon and Duke of Montbazon (Prince Albert de Rohan) (9 May 1936 – 4 June 2019) was an Austrian diplomat. He served as Secretary General (Generalsekretär) of the Austrian Foreign Ministry from 1996 to 2001. Biography Albert Rohan was born in Melk, Lower Austria. He studied law at the University of Vienna and became a Doctor of Laws in 1960. Charles Alain de Rohan (Charles Alain Gabriel; 18 January 1764 – 24 April 1836) was a French nobleman and Prince of Guéméné. He died without any surviving descendants as his daughter died without children. Biography Born on 18 January 1764 at the Palace of Versailles, he was baptised the same day. He was the son of Henri Louis de Rohan and his distant cousin Victoire de Rohan. His mother was governess to the children of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI; she was succeeded by Madame de Polignac. After his parents became disgraced with his fathers debts, the family moved from Versailles and had to sell their famous townhouse, the Parisian Hôtel de Rohan-Guémené. He married Louise Aglaé de Conflans d'Armentieres at the Église Saint-Sulpice in Paris on 29 May 1781 and had one daughter, Berthe, who would later marry her uncle the Duke of Bouillon. Jules de Rohan (Jules Hercule Mériadec; 25 March 1726 – 10 December 1800) was Prince of Guéméné. Born in Paris, he died in Carlsbourg.
