Davids is an unusual patronymic surname and a variant of Davidis. The name is mostly found in Great Britain and in the Netherlands. Davids is derived from the Hebrew word for "beloved". Edgar Steven Davids (; born 13 March 1973) is a Dutch-Surinamese former professional footballer and current coach. After beginning his career with Ajax, winning several domestic and international titles, he subsequently played in Italy for AC Milan, and later enjoyed a successful spell with Juventus, before being loaned out to Barcelona in 2004. Fadluraghman "Fadlu" Davids (born 21 May 1981 in Cape Town, Western Cape) is a retired South African football (soccer) striker who last played for Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United. Henry Davids (born 19 January 1980) is a South African cricketer. A right-handed batsman and a useful right-arm medium-fast bowler, Davids started his career with the Boland cricket team and then moved to the Nashua Cape Cobras. He performed well in the 2009 Champions League Twenty20 for the Cobras, finishing in the top-ten run-scorers in the competition with 137 runs at a strike-rate of 110.48. The Davidic line or House of David () refers to the lineage of the Israelite king David through texts in the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and through the succeeding centuries.
