Cherry Creek is a town in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 1,036 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from that of a small stream that flows through the town amid many cherry trees. Cherry Creek is situated on the east border of the county, northeast of Jamestown. There is also a hamlet named Cherry Creek located within the town. History The community was first settled ''circa'' 1815, and the town of Cherry Creek was formed in 1829 from part of the town of Ellington. The settlement got its name from a cherry tree planted by Holland Land Company surveyor Joshua Bentley to mark the center of the new town. The village, which was incorporated in 1893, voted on February 2, 2017 to dissolve into the surrounding town. Cherry Creek (village), New York
Cherry Creek is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 461 at the 2010 census, when it was an incorporated village. The hamlet is within the town of Cherry Creek near the east border of the county. It is located on New York State Route 83 and a stream called Cherry Creek. History The hamlet is the site of the earliest settlement of the town, in 1815. The settlement got its name from a cherry tree planted by Holland Land Company surveyor Joshua Bentley to mark the center of the new town. It was formally incorporated as a village in 1893. On February 2, 2017, residents of the village voted 70 to 32 in favor of dissolving into the surrounding town of Cherry Creek. The village was dissolved on December 31, 2017. Charlotte is centrally located in the county, north of Jamestown and south of Dunkirk. History The area was first settled ''circa'' 1809. Conewango Creek
Conewango Creek is a tributary of the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania and western New York in the United States. The creek's drainage covers much of southeastern Chautauqua County, New York, and western Cattaraugus County, New York. The creek's most notable tributary is the Chadakoin River, which supplies the creek water from Chautauqua Lake. The Chautauqua Ridge, a continental divide bounds the watershed to the north and west. Sinclairville is a village in Chautauqua County, New York, United States. The population was 578 at the 2020 census. The village is named after Major Samuel Sinclear, its founder. Sinclairville is north of Jamestown and is on the border of the towns of Charlotte and Gerry. History The village was founded in 1809 after the American Revolutionary War by Major Samuel Sinclear as "Sinclearville". The area was previously inhabited for hundreds of years by the Seneca people of the Iroquois Confederacy (''Haudenosaunee'') who, as allies of the British during the war, were forced to cede most of their lands to the United States and New York state. New York And Lake Erie Railroad
The New York & Lake Erie is a class III railroad operating in Western New York. The NYLE was formed in 1978 to operate a portion of former Erie trackage that Conrail no longer wanted. Today, the railroad operates between Gowanda to Conewango Valley, New York. The main branch of the trackage once connected with the now- WNYP owned (NS-leased) Southern Tier Line in Waterboro. However, that portion of the line (south of Conewango Valley) and the junction at Waterboro were decommissioned several years ago. The NYLE also operated a branch between Dayton and Salamanca, also connecting with the Southern Tier Line there, until 1990; the portion south of Cattaraugus was torn out and eventually replaced with the Pat McGee Trail in the early 2000s, while the portion north of Cattaraugus was damaged by floods and landslides in the 2010s and is also no longer operational.
