Its population was 28,700 at the 2018 census. History Originally called Ficocle, it was probably of Greek origin and was located midway between current Cervia and Ravenna. This medieval city grew until it was provided with three fortified entrances, a Palaces of Priors, seven churches and a castle (''Rocca'') which, according to the legend, was built by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. The name also changed from Ficocle to Cervia, probably referring to the ''Acervi'', great amounts of salt left in the local evaporation ponds. After a long series of events, it became p ...

Saint Paternian
Paternian or Paternianus ( it, San Paterniano) is the name of an Italian saint. A native of Fermo who escaped to the mountains during the persecutions of Christians by Diocletian, he was then appointed bishop of Fano by Pope Sylvester I. (Paternian is often confused with Parthenian (Parteniano), a bishop of Bologna, also commemorated on July 12.) Life Historical details about Paternian are scarce. The ''Vita Sancti Paterniani'' can be found in a codex of the 12th century, though it dates earlier, and was written by a monk of the 10th or 11th century. But it is legendary and not reliable. Paternian was born at Fano around 275 AD. An angel told him in a vision to escape this city and hide out in a deserted place near the Metauro River. He became a hermit and the abbot of a monastery. Later, when the persecution of Christians stopped, the citizens of Fano demanded that he become their bishop. Paternian governed the city for many years. He died on November 13, around 360 AD. ...

Seaside Resort
A seaside resort is a town, village, or hotel that serves as a vacation resort and is located on a coast. Sometimes the concept includes an aspect of official accreditation based on the satisfaction of certain requirements, such as in the German ''Seebad''. Where a beach is the primary focus for tourists, it may be called a beach resort. History Seaside resorts have existed since antiquity. In Roman times, the town of Baiae, by the Tyrrhenian Sea in Italy, was a resort for those who were sufficiently prosperous. Barcola in northern Italy, with its Roman luxury villas, is considered a special example of ancient leisure culture by the sea. Mersea Island, in Essex, England was a seaside holiday destination for wealthy Romans living in Colchester. The first seaside resorts were opened in the 18th century for the aristocracy, ...
