Cars (franchise)
''Cars'' is a CGI-animated film series and Disney media franchise set in a world populated by anthropomorphic vehicles created by John Lasseter, Joe Ranft and Jorgen Klubien. The franchise began with the 2006 film of the same name, produced by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film was followed by a sequel in 2011. A third film, '' Cars 3'', was released in 2017. The now-defunct Disneytoon Studios produced the two spin-off films ''Planes'' (2013) and '' Planes: Fire & Rescue'' (2014). The first two ''Cars'' films were directed by Lasseter, then- chief creative officer of Pixar, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Disneytoon Studios, while ''Cars 3'' was directed by Brian Fee, a storyboard artist on the previous installments. John Lasseter
John Alan Lasseter (; born January 12, 1957) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, animator, voice actor, and the head of animation at Skydance Animation. He was previously the chief creative officer of Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Disneytoon Studios, as well as the Principal Creative Advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering. Lasseter began his career as an animator with The Walt Disney Company. After being fired from Disney for promoting computer animation, he joined Lucasfilm, where he worked on then-groundbreaking use of CGI animation. The Graphics Group of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm was sold to Steve Jobs and became Pixar in 1986. Lasseter oversaw all of Pixar's films and associated projects as executive producer. Mater's Tall Tales
''Cars Toons'' is a television series of American computer-animated short films produced by Pixar. It features the main characters Lightning McQueen and Mater from Pixar's ''Cars'' franchise non-canonically in the original plot. Larry the Cable Guy reprises his role as Mater while Keith Ferguson replaces Owen Wilson as the voice of Lightning McQueen until ''The Radiator Springs 500 ½'', when Wilson reprises his role. The series premiered on October 27, 2008 on both Disney Channel, Toon Disney and ABC Family. Not exclusive to television, the shorts were also released on home media and/or as theatrical shorts. Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy is a show attraction based on the ''Cars'' franchise in Sunset Boulevard at Disney's Hollywood Studios, which opened on March 31, 2019, as part of the park's 30th anniversary celebration. The show takes place after the events of '' Cars 3''. The show is housed in Sunset Showcase Theater near Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters is a trackless dancing cars ride located in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. The attraction, which opened on March 7, 2016, features Luigi, the Italian roadster who runs the Casa Della Tires shop in Radiator Springs. The attraction is the first at the Disneyland Resort to use a trackless ride system. Other ride systems in Disney Parks that use trackless technology include The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in Walt Disney World, Pooh's Hunny Hunt and Aquatopia in Tokyo Disney Resort, Mystic Manor in Hong Kong Disneyland, and Ratatouille in Disneyland Paris. Luigi's Flying Tires was an amusement ride in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, At the Disneyland Resort In Anaheim, California. Guests rode on tire-shaped bumper car vehicles that floated on a cushion of air, similar to an air hockey game. The ride's concept was based on Disneyland's Flying Saucers attraction from the 1960s. Released by Walt Disney Records on June 6, 2006, nine songs from the soundtrack are from popular and contemporary artists. The styles of these songs vary between pop, blues, country, and rock. The remaining eleven pieces are orchestral scores composed and conducted by Randy Newman. The soundtrack was released three days before the film's release into theaters.
